  • Newbie polishing question

    Hi folks.

I have a simple question, and I'm sure it's been asked here before but I can't find a thread about it anywhere.

When I polish a car (with either #7 or DC2), I always get an iridescent film or skin that is inconsistent and blotchy and a major pain to remove. This happens both when I do it by hand and when I use a PC orbital buffer.

Is this film a result of me applying way too much product? Or am I doing something wrong? (Or, is this just part of the process and I'm whinning too much?)

Do you properly prep the paint before polish.......clay and DC1 paint cleaner. I recall trying the DC2 polish a few years back(before I knew the correct steps) It was a pain to remove.
Could be that you are using too much. I applied DC2 with the PC recently and it worked great. A little goes along way. Don't let it get dry.
    Black......the ONLY color!

      Hi:

The key to these products is to:

      Work a small area.
      Work the product in some.
      Remove.

You do not let these products dry. As you found out, once it forms a skin it can be hard to remove.

      Regards,

Yup, sounds like you are letting the cleaners and polishes dry. Only the waxes need to dry.

Just work a panel at a time with the polish.
