  • How much pressure on MF towels?

    Hi,

Anyone has any idea on the amount of pressure to put on the Supreme Shine MF Towels when removing products such as M83, M80, M07, M21 etc...?

I recently tried to wipe off M80 off the hood of my car and instead of just lightly buffing it off, i put in some pressure as it was difficult to come off... and it put in some swirls back.

    Any advice is really appreciated.

    Thanks!!

To remove any Meg's product (wax or polish) you dont need much more pressure than the weight of your hand. If you do, your doin something wrong.

Are you applying the product properly and not using too much ?

With any type of sealant, such as Nxt, #80, or #81, among others, you really want to put as little product as possible on the finish, or else removal is a bear. If you think you're not putting on enough, put on a little less, and you're there! For wax, like #26, GC, DC3, etc., you can get away with putting on a little more, as it's easier to remove than a sealant.

In any case, for removal after proper amount application, you basically want to apply just enough pressure to remove the product, and no more. Start with a gentle rub, and that should do it. If not, put a little more pressure. For sealants, if you've applied too much, you're going to be scrubbing the paint basically to remove the product -- and ultimately not leaving much if any left on the vehicle!

I concur with the above. I just did my '04 Saturn Vue the weekend before last. After claying, I used ScratchX (by hand) for some deep scratches, then went over the entire vehicle with #80 (speed glaze) via PC... one light swipe with the microfiber was all it took... came off super easy- as did the 2 coats of NXT that followed.

About the only time a product like M80 will be difficult to wipe off is when you have too much on the surface and/or you've let it dry and/or let it dry for a really long time and usually a combination of all three, you've used too much product and let it dry for a really long time.

M80 is water-based, if it's difficult to wipe off, consider washing it off with car wash soap and water and a wash mitt. Then dry the paint off and pick back up where you left off.

As mentioned above, never apply pressure when using the wipe off towels, gently wipe should be all that is required. For most products I use, if there are any small areas where there are stubborn residues (eg Poorboys Nattys Paste Wax leaves them...), then a quick spritz on the mf towel with a QD spray (Meguiars Last Touch is great) helps in the removal of residues...

In fact, I generally use a QD spray on mf towels when buffing off anyway to make the procedure of wiping the paint safer incase any little bits of dirt and grit have landed on the paint... Works great during drying the car after washing too.

I think I've used too much product and it dried off even before i reach the part to be wiped off. Will try to work on smaller areas at a time. I tried to follow the DVD where half the hood was worked on before it was all wiped off. I guess the humidity here is high and by the time i wiped off half of what i worked on, the other half was a hassle to clear.

                  Thanks all for the advice...

Although I haven't tried any of Meg's sealants, the approach I use for the sealant I've used is basically during application to rub it until you essentially can't see it any more. The removal process is then simply wiping a few hazes here and there. I had to wait for a rain storm to be confident that the product was actually there -- and it was!
