  • The War of the Swirls

Howdy, I have a black 04 Mercedes (w/o nano-paint). I use the following technique, PC with 83, then 7 and topped with NXT and remove the dried product with a micro-fiber towel. I have never been able to get all the swirls out. It’s OK, but not great like the results some of you achieve. Problem is after several washing’s the swirls are back in full force. I use the two bucket method with lambs wool wash mits, NXT car wash and dry with a micro fiber towel.

Any ideas how I’m swirling the paint after I wash it? I’ve been told the paint is extremely hard and I imagine that’s why I’m not able to remove all the swirls when I go after it with the PC.

    Thanks to all that respond.

    You should try the following:

    Wash
    Clay
    #83
    #80
    NXT x 2 coats

and then occasionally use a spray wax or spray detailer...

You apply the #83 with the 8006 pad?

You might try getting Mikes How-To DVD. Might help make sure you are using the right pressure, speed, arm movement, etc.

Are you able to tell if they are the same swirls that you tried to remove, or whole new ones? You can rinse the panel with 50:50 isopropyl alchol and water mix after using the #83/#80 to see if swirls are gone before moving on. THe alcohol will get rid of any fillers that just filled stuff in.

Yep, after preping the surface I use a 8006 pad for the 83 & 7. Use about 15 - 20lbs pressure on the head, speed set at 5 on the pc using a criss cross patttern.

Good idea on the 50/50 rinse, I'll try it on my next detail to get a a good reading. Thanks
