  • Fresh Wax vs. Rain

Darn i hate summer in new england right now...

alright, here's the deal - i washed and then put #7 on my car and topped it with NXT wax. The whole process I completed about an hour ago -

    NOW ITS RAINING!

what if anything does the rain do to my freshly pampered car? what do I need to do tomorrow/the next day to keep up the protection?

Depends how dusty/dirty your car looks in the morning. If it is just water, then you can use a Quick Detailer or Speed Detailer, etc.

If it looks dirty, or if the dust became a bit more muddy, if you know what i mean, then just have to re-wash it.

so this isnt disturbing the whole set-up process? i guess that is my main concern. i put a lot of work into it tonight, and was very happy with the results - id hate to lose it.

I was asking a similar question about rain.

Murr - So, right after the rain stopped, if I had my NXT Speed Detailer and MF towel with me at the time, I could've sprayed a panel down (with rain still on it), and wipe off, until I went around the entire truck (or at least the flat surfaces)?

If so, I'll do that next time because when the rain dried, of course it showed the dirt/dust, and it sucked.

rudemood - I was told NXT Tech Wax needs at least 12 hrs to cure. I'd just do it again once the rain stopped. . .

Well, if the car was dirty enough before the rain that it realy looks spotted now, I'd probably wash it.

Incidently, I learned this past weekend that a foam gun is great in the rain. Just spray a panel with soapy water, wipe the panel with a sponge, and rinse the sponge in rinse water bucket. Then move on. A rinse with the hose and the rain takes care of the soap on the car.

And a lot of the 12 hour set up is for looks.. 90-95% of the setting will happen in the first hour. So all your wax didnt wash off or anything.

I had the same scenario too, one day after that, you could see dust spots(brown in colour) on the hood and fenders, it was so dirty.

I lightly washed and dry it and apply wax, now letting it fully cure 24-hours.
2 more days it rained, but now doesn't collect as much dust as it used to before the wax cured.

the car was definitely not dirty before the rain - it had just been washed, polished and waxed.

also, theres no chance that my application of #7 gets messed up at all is there?

i hate to seem so paranoid but i finally went ahead and polished and waxed instead of just washing/detailing. i was so proud of myself and then a spot of rain... GAH!

Well, the #7 should be under the wax, so it will be ok.

just wasnt sure if it needed proper time to 'seal' it in.

everything looks kosher - rain is beading nicely and the paint is slick and hot looking too bad its white...

now, if i could only get some #21
