I was wondering what people thought about clear bra's on a car. I read that to remove the clear bra that you have to heat the clear bra to 150 degrees f. And some people say you can wax and polish right over it. I know I don't want to do that. They say it is save and won't hurt the paint. But it can become a pain when it come's to detailing the car. You have to remove it every time you have the car detailed. And for what I read that the clear bra should be applied by a pro.

I HATE THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes it protects from chips but, what do you do when the bra is damaged? They are soft and damage easy. Bugs stick to them easily. How do you wash them off without damaging the bra more? A bug sponge that is safe on paint will scratch the bra.
You will not have chips in your paint but you will have banged up, scratched up, swirled up and orange peel looking appearance on your car. I rather just have a few chips.
Most bras make the front of the car look worst. They look a little milky and add an orange peel texture to the front of the vehicle.
When heated by the sun they are even easier to damage!
Waxing and polishing around them is a super pain in the arse -Last edited by Superior Shine; Jun 11, 2006, 06:47 AM.

I was going to ask this same question. Since I have a 4x4 truck, I still wanted to protect it as much as possible and was wondering how clear bra would fit in the whole detailing thing.
I'd like to know what other people think. After really enjoying detailing my truck, I'm thinking twice about it. But we'll see after I go off-roading in it for the first time.

Couldn't you just get a bonnet protector? Impreza Bonnet Protector
These are usually easy to mount and just screw onto the headlights or such. I'm actually regretting not having one of those for my Subie, I drive down an gravel track once every week and have gotten a couple of chips that went straight down to the primer.
Never heard of the ones you've described before...Gil A. Castillo

Stonegard
I had them on my previous cars and will be puting one on my current car soon (hopefully next weekend) and although there is a trade off, I prefer the protection from stonechips.

I detailed a 2006 Lexus 430 today and it have a clear bra. I applied NXT with my Cyclo, however, when I finished applying the NXT I went back and applied the product with a Mequiars applicator horizontally along the lines of the clear bra. By the way I also applied NXT on the clear bra, then buffed the entire car. The result was stunning. I wish I had a digital camera so I could show the results. I'm gonna have to invest in a digital camera so I can post some of my work."NOW IS THE TIME"
