  • 3 step system

    Hi,

    I really need to do something about my car. Its black, and it is swirled the hell up. It also has some fine scratches in the paint.

    Im looking to get a good smooth looking surface. I clayed about 3 weeks ago and the paint still seems smooth, but I can't get rid of the swirls with regular washing. Ive tried spray wax and it doesnt work.

    Right now, im looking for a good polish/wax combo to get rid of the swirls/scratches and the wax to keep it that way.

    I just bought a random orbital buffer from HD, figuring that I wont get anywhere doing it by hand, and it will take me forever.

    Ive been looking at the Deep Clean 3 step system from Meguiars and I think that this will help me a great deal. One question I have though, Can I use a buffer with these, or does it have to be done by hand? I do have some applicator pads, microfiber cloths, and a cotton wash mit.

    Another problem I have..

    I live in an apartment, it is right in the middle of a forest, and I have no where to cover the car. (No garage/Carport). The problem is that it gets very humid around me, and at night, a layer of dew falls on the car. Since it is black, the dew will often just dry and leave dirt/spots on the car. Is there anything I can put on the car to stop the dew from staying on there. Sounds stupid, but other cars in the lot dont have this problem.

    Thanks for the help, sorry for a long message, NooB to the board.

    There are no forests in texas. Certain companies make car covers that you could thrown on at night and take off in the morning.

      You will probably have better results using #83 or #80 to get the swirls out than DC1. As far as the dew, a cover is one option, you could also get some Quick Detailer and keep it and a microfiber in the car and wipe it down in the mornings before you leave. Just make sure the car isn't too dirty or you will rub dirt around and make more of the scratches you are trying to get rid of in the first place!

        Read the article (link below).

        You'll find that your orbital buffer, does not have sufficient power to remove swirls and scratches. It's good for applying a wax, and that's about it. I know since when I first started I bought Sears buffer, and was frustrated when I wasn't getting the results I wanted. You'll read most here use Meguiars G100A to get the professional results your looking for, and does not harm your finish in any way. It's foolproof!

        The first link explains why Orbital Buffers won't work, and the second link explains how to accomplish removing swirls with the G100.

          I know that I have seen an attachment to a drill that looks similar to the head of the G-100, could that work? I dont want to spend another $130.

            That would turn a drill into a Rotary Buffer (since it spins on a axle), which I don't recommend. A Rotary can cause some serious damage to your paint (Burn, holograms), in an untrained hand.

            Your only other option is to try Scratch X by hand. You wouldn't be able to do the whole car at once, but break it up over time and you can get it. It's killer on your arms, and will take some dedication to make it happen. Difficult but no impossible!

              I tried doing that with another product that was laying around a few weeks ago. It seemed to work ok, but it was an inferior product to meguiars. I might try that.

              The main areas I am having problems with is around door handles, hood and top of front fenders. everywhere else seems to be ok to an extent.

              I just got the 3 step deep cleaning kit on my way home, Is it advised to keep it or return it?

                Keep it if you plan on maintaning your vehicle..

                Start like this:
                1. Wash
                2. Clay - If you have already skip
                3. Scratch X - On the bad areas you listed / DC1 - All other areas you didn't use Scratch X on..
                4. DC2
                5. DC3

                I did it this way when I started detailing, and I was happy with the results.

                  Now I assume that I should just use Scartch X with foam applicators? Not the buffer, but use the buffer for step 3?

                  I still need to get the quick detailer.

                    Did it.

                    Wash --> Gold Class
                    Cleaner --> DC1
                    Polish -->DC2
                    Wax --> DC3 & Used Buffer.

                    Im quite impressed with the result. Looks much better than it did before. Now the swirl marks are barely noticeable.
