  • Degreaser or APC or Wheel Brightener ?

    Hey guys,

Looking to head over to the US this weekend, and would like to purchase a couple of products from the Detailer Line, primarily to save some money. Looking for something that will Clean Wheels and Engines at the same time - using different dilution ratios if needed. Something that I can also use on wheel wells and so forth.

    Here are my options:

    Wheel Brightener

    All Purpose Cleaner (APC)

    Safe D-Greaser

    Super Degreaser

I would only like to buy one of the above, something that will for everything.

    Thanks!

To start, what type of wheels are you looking to clean. If they are aluminum you would not want to use the Wheel Brightner as it is a acid that can etch the finish. APC is like it's name says is a good all purpose cleaner but primarily used for interiors. Safe D-Greaser and Super Degreaser are great products.

You really have two choices that I see Safe D-Greaser for what you have listed as the things you want to clean but another great choice would be the All Purpose Cleaner Plus as it will work on the items you have listed and also can be diluted for use on interiors too.

Only pick one? Safe D-Greaser. Works very well on wheel wells and engines. For a wheel cleaner, maybe check into Meguiar's Hotrims series or P21S wheel cleaners.

Hmm, I think it would be hard to pick just one, especially for Wheel Wells. I've heard that the APC is good for wheel wells, and haven't tried the Safe Degreaser on the Wheel wells. Just one...hmm kinda hard...I think APC since its all purpose and can be used on more than one surface...although your goal is for wheel wells and wheels...

I haven't tried the Safe Degreaser, but I have used APC @ 4:1 for wheel wells, and engine cleaning. APC is VERY mild in my opinion, so if an engine is really greasy and grimmy, it's probably not gonna do much.

Alex, do you use it on your wheels at all?... If so, how do you compare it to a dedicated wheel cleaner? ie: Hot RimsĀ® All Wheel Cleaner

            Thanks

              I wouldn't pick just one.

You could stain certain types of wheels with a D-Greaser. It states it right on the bottle. So I use All Wheel Cleaner for wheels.

I would go with Safe D-Greaser.. It works great on wheel wells and engines. I like Safe D-Greaser better for wells and engines, over APC (I have/used both).

I try to keep APC for the interior and door jambs.

Hi all how do u guys clean the wheel well? As in how do u access it? Jack up the car?

Also within my engine bay there are some painted surfaces...the part where the strut bar / suspension is bolted on. If i use a 5:1 APC on it will it damage my paint?

                Thanks

I just used Safe-D-Greaser Memorial weekend and I must say it does a great job on wheels and wells.

This is a pictures after using it on my trailblazer.

This had no dressing at the time.
                  Really good stuff.

                    Same here,
zr123, you might want to look into APC plus if you're only going to get one product, it's one of my favorite products that I got from ADS.
Description: This all surface cleaner is ideally suited for today's fast paced, high volume, detail operations where one simple solution is needed for a variety of cleaning needs. It provides mixtures for heavy cleaning of engines and tires, fast interior cleaning, as well as low foam ratio for use in carpet and upholstery extraction machines. Leaves carpet clean, smelling pleasant, and the fibers soft with no sticky residue. Safe for clear plastic, glass and leather.

But for a safe wheel cleaner I would buy anything from the detailer line. Buy a product specifically to safetly clean your wheels like the wheel cleaner P21S makes, HotRims all wheel cleaner (safe for most types of wheels), or #36 Hi-Tech Wheel Cleaner
