  • Fun with pictures

I was bored so I thought I would show you all what you cna do with a camera, well what you can hide anyway.

This is a side view of my brother's FILTHY 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

But by doing nothing to the car and just moving myself to a different position for different lighting I was able to get this picture.

You can still tell the car is dirty in the second picture but it is clearly not as noticible as the first one.

I did this really for no other reason then because I was bored and wanted to go outside and take some pictures

Hey B... Looks like you have a Sony cybershot digital camera!?!? I am looking in to one, a Sony since I have a Sony PC with a memory stick slot. Anyway.... how do you like it? how are the photos and what model is it? If in fact it is a Sony.

Bri9801, the answer to your boredom may start with the letter "K"

      Kids, have a few!

Keeps you so busy... you won't have time to be bored!

But you do make a valid point, pictures on the web can be easily manipulated to show what you want to show. I notice a lot of people take pictures of their favorite wax on their car's finish at sunset, or early morning and the pictures makes the wax job look awesome!

But the finish may not really look that stellar, it's just the lighting.

I think professional photographers for car magazines make it a practice to photograph cars at what is referenced to as The Golden Hour, this is approximately 1 hour before sunset.

After hearing this, I often look at car photographs in magazines to try to see if it looks like the sun is setting, seems to be the case so far....

That's why I take all my photo's in the best light available to show an accurate representation of what I'm seeing with my own eyes, and... I never monkey with my photos using image editing software when the purpose is to show accurate results.

Even with swirl marks you can take your before and after pictures at the same time. The sun glaring on the car make it look scratched to shreds, but move to the other side, away from the sun, and you can still get a decent reflection before detailing. Pictures DO lie, even without the help of photoshop. Look for the sun. If it ain't there, you can't trust it.

That said, in my recent post, I'll fess up to forgetting to take the after photo of the trunk in the sun and using a BEFORE PHOTO from in the garage as my after. Remember, these are both before:

        AND

I felt bad about using a before as an after, but not bad enough to go retake the picture the next day when I realized I'd forgotten one. The rest of the shots show the transformation of the car in the sun and the "after" really does look as good as that before photo.

OK, I feel better having confessed!

But I don't think we are here to hide what we want to cure. Are we?
I'd like to learn how to take a good shot of "orange peel". the only way I can get it to show up on the computer is in a reflection of a roof line or something straight the reflection will show a wavelike appearance. This is "orange peel"
          Like so:

The other is Fish eye, I finely found one on my truck. But again the camera will hide a lot.
I'm going to try using a alternate light source at a very sharp angle to the body panel and see if it will photo better.

Good eye, it is a Sony. The cybershot DSC-P10 5.1 Megapixels. It's not as nice as my brothers digital rebel, or even my SLR, but it it is a pretty decent camera. I have blown them up to 8 X 10 and they look great. I am happy with it.

I actually do have one. A little girl, 6 months old. I am very proud Daddy.

I know what you mean about time though. I used to have all the free time in the world, now it's tough to find time to cut the grass.

Photgraphy was a little hobby of mine before child so I am well aware of the "Golden Hour" and that was actually when I had taken these pictures. I wish I had thought of doing it earlier with some more sunlight because I could have illustrated my point much better.

This was basically the only point I was trying to make. I am not trying to deter anyone from posting pictures, I love to look at them, I also like to take them and post them myself....there is something about a clean shiny car that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside
