WOW, what a relief! I had this exact problem with my 06 Scion tC. My first detail, and everything was going GREAT until this. I got scared that I somehow messed up the paint and I'd have to strip of the wax, reclean, repolish, and rewax. I definitely put it on too thick. When they said thinly, I didn't think they meant THAT thinly. I must have used a quarter size of NXT 10 or 20 times on the front end!
So what would be a better choice: Try to heat up the wax with sun (not likely, rainy for next 2 days) and buff off as much as I can, or wait 24 hours and apply the second coat very thinly.
I also noticed that this phenomenon mainly occurs in low-light situations. I was using an automotive light in my garage while buffing off the wax because it was threatening to rain outside. It looked great. When I turned off the light and looked at it, though, the splotches were easily visible.
Maybe Megs should start writing how thinly to apply the wax, especially on darker paints.
