  • Is there a right or wrong way to clay?

Hi all ? Ive never used the clay before so Im really not to sure how to use it correctly. Ive searched around the forum and couldnt find any real answers, or technique's. Everyone seems pretty oh hum and makes it sound easy. Im going to detail my 06 T-reg which is black, now would this be the correct way to do things?

    Wash with Gold
    dry
    Clay advice appreciated
DA with 80 and then a couple of coats or Nxt

Sry one more ? why do you have to wait a day to apply the second coat of wax and I guess you would have to wash again before applying second coat of wax?

Thnx again this community is very gracious with there help and Mike, well what can I say, the man is unbelievable( does he ever rest)!

Take a look at Mike's video at http://www.showcargarage.com/vid/60corvette_edit2.wmv . Hopefully you have broadband because it's a fairly large file. Claying is pretty straightforward.

as far as I know you don't have to wait a day to apply a second coat of wax.

from what i've heard you can wait a day before fully taking the car out and driving it, so that everything settles and seals. something like that. i can't remember exactly.

but ou can apply two coats of wax pretty much straight away.

The waiting a day thing for second coats are for really car crazy people. The polymers in waxes need to cure after it has been applied. Depending on many conditions (humidity, temp, how well paint was prepared, etc), this may take a few hours to many hours. Waiting a day is the "safe" time period that you know it will be fully cured no matter what the conditions (unless liquid is introduced onto the paint).
However, IMHO I apply a second coat not to layer the first coat, but to create a more uniform even layer of wax. This makes sure that I haven't missed any spots. You can probably add the second coat right away if you're just looking for one even layer of wax as opposed to layering your waxes.

Thnx Truffle and Top Down, well Im alittle Car Crazy and Im looking for the deepest shine possible so I guess Ill wait for that curing time. As far as the claying, it was pretty simple and the results where great now on to the Speed Glaze
            Thnx again
