In the DVD Mike uses an MF to clean his pad half way through. and says to just designate one MF to totally cleanly your pads while waxing that day.

my questions are these.

will that SS MF be easy to clean with all that pigment etc. in it?

do you HAVE to use different applicators for each product when doing by hand?

how do you wash the applicators?

IMO, I wouldn't use a SS MF for cleaning a pad. They're nice towels. I'd use a 'junk' towel. ADS sells a dozen MF towels for $10, and Costco sells towels in packs of 20. I like to use towels like that for dirtier jobs- door jambs, wheels, engines, interiors, and cleaning pads.

Yes, use a different applicator for each product, just as you use a different pad for each product. Its not a great idea to cross contaminate products.

I drop mine in a bucket of warm water with soap and soak them for 30 minutes. Then I squeeze them out and let them dry. If they're being used for applying something like waxes, I make sure each one is easily identifiable so that I'm still only using it for one product.

Costco it is. they got bundles of microfirber for cheap prices and i never thought of using them to clean PADS. thanks. i don't knwo i didn't earlier.

maybe because MIKE said to use the SS MF.

i use terry cloth for door jams. found it to be little tougher in fighting grime/grease.

so:

one applicator pad for waxes no matter what type of wax?

one app. pad for polishes no matter what type?

i have 3 PC Pads right now. should i have more? like say i use m80 and then m83, can i not use the same pad to apply those.

As a Meguiar's employee, I tend to recommend my boss's products. The DVD is a video on using the right techniques to get show car results using Meguiar's products.

It would be pretty tough to make a DVD on how to use Costco products.

Actually, what tends to work the best for cleaning pads on the fly is a soft, fluffy, absorbent terry cloth towel as the point of cleaning the pad is to absorb, remove, draw-away-from, etc., any excess or built-up product off of the pad.

I'd have to re-watch that segment to see the exact words, but normally I would say to use either a microfiber or a terry cloth towel and usually the emphasis is on terry cloth with large nap, like this one...

The rule of thumb is, you need one pad for each different products. NEVER cross contaminate products. If you've got 80 and 83, then you need one pad for EACH polish. If you have other products you want to use with the PC, you need another pad for each product. Same goes for applicators.

I wouldn't use costco M/Fs to clean the pads as the pads are going to touch the paint and anything that comes off of the microfiber ad onto the pad will scratch you paint!! I personally own tons of Costco microfibers they are great to use in the engine compartment, wheel wells, door jambs and tires. I can’t afford to use a $15 microfibers on my tires!

so i should just stick with SS MF then.

i can get from ADS or drive to states and go to Pepboys and get them really cheap.

its only 45 minute drive for me

Why would you be concerned about a foreign particle coming off of a clean microfiber towel?

Personally, I use the cheap MFs from wholesale clubs all the time to clean pads, door jambs, and the engine compartment. After each use they get washed and are clean afterward.

The only reason why people would not use these low quality towels on their paint is because they are not as soft as other towels. The edging in particular can cause marring on paint. Softness is no where near as big a factor when you're cleaning a foam pad though.

well its not always clean! in some of my cheap m/fs i have noticed what looks like small wood chips... think about the damage that could cause if it was on a pad spinning at 6000opm

SNEEK Pep Boys has almost same prices as ADS?

At least where i go. and last week they had a promotion with like 6 or 7 different bottles (ie. tire clean, hot tire spray etc...) which was buy one get one free. pretty sweet at $5 a bottle.

Wood chips? I've never seen that in any of my MFs. I always wash (no matter where I buy them) and remove the tags before I use new MFs.

I can't imagine where you're picking up these particles. Do you throw the towels on the floor? Do you not keep them in a clean, enclosed container?

i mean, do i need one DC pad for say just M80 for everytime i use M80 i use that exact pad.

or is it say i detail the car on saturday and use M80, once i wash that pad then I can use a different product on that pad on Tuesday if i detail another car with a different product.

Get a pad, write "80" on the back of it. Never use that pad for anything but 80 no matter how you wash it.

Do that for every seperate compound, polish, cleaner, and wax you'll be using with the PC.
