  • Need Advice, Detailing Delivered Corvette

A gentleman is having his triple black 06 Z06 delievered to the dealership, straight from the factory, with the plastic sheeting still on the car. I am going to the dealership the next day to detail it before he takes delievery.

For the protection of the paint, I plan #7 followed by 2 coats of #21, followed by #26 for a coat. A

I would assume that the car should have zero swirls to begin with, so what steps should I include when I detail. Will it need to be washed? Maybe just quick detailer? What should I do with the interior?

Should I just treat it like a regular car? Being black, even perfect washing technique has the possibilty of installing a light amout of trace swirls. This has to be avoided at ALL costs. If there is minor swirling from the factory, maybe #82 via 7006?

Anybody with experience detailing brand new cars (from the factory) please help educate me so I go into this with my guns loaded!

    Thanks

I would definitetly clay the surface after washing it. New cars tend to have rail dust and industrial fall out everywhere even though they're new. I assume you're doing this by machine. If so check the surface for bonded contaminants. Take care of them if necessary. The check the surface for swirls marks, you never know what was used to clean the surface at the manufacturing plant. If you happen to have minor to moderate below surface inperfections use the M83 to take care of the easily and quickly. Once the surface has be cleaned and prepped correclty top it off with our NXT Generation Tech wax. The polishing oils in both M83 and NXT should provide a high gloss to the already glossy new paint. The key to keeping the car looking great is using the correct tools when ever you're applying product onto the finish. Use quality cotton terry towels or foam pads to apply cleaners, polsihes, and waxes. Use Micro fiber to wipe off any product on the paint. Using a plush, high quality wash mit helps as well.

They Jorge. I perfer 21 over NXT, so I assume that wouldn't be a problem? Also, what about #7 underneath. I want this thing to glow. Being black, I was considering perhaps using 80 or 82, since I guess I am not skilled enough not to use 83 with out leaving fine micromarring.

        I'd do as follows:

        Wash
        Clay
        Dry
        #80
        #21
2nd coat of #26 as you suggested.

The #80 should do pretty good/well on new paint, it'll polish and clean and doesn't require anything fancy in terms of skill.

Also, this car will be delivered in plastic. Is anything special needed to remove the plastic at all? I mean its coming straight off the delievery truck to a back bay for me to have at. Anybody have any experince with this?

Well, in most cases, the exterior is in more of a tacky paper/plastic. Just peels off.

The interior, etc might be wrapped in plastic sometimes.

One thing I have seen, when pastic is first peeled off, there can sometimes be an outline of the paper left. But it usualy fades away in about a day. Dont know the cause.

Got my new black lexus from the dealer a few weeks ago with no /washing, detailing. It did not have plastic on the exterior, but all the stickers and plastic on the seats.

I had this dream that it would be perfect and only need a wash followed by #81 Hand Polish and wax of choice. It was in nice shape, but not a dream. It had some scratches and lots of water spots. No swirls. On advice of the Big Guns here, I washed, clayed and started out with 80, but changed over to #9 (both with the DA). Then 81 by hand followed by#16 by hand. I don't really have the eye to pick up differences in waxes. I found some more water spots, so after removal I went back with Souveran, found some more scratches and after removal went back with NXT Tech Wax. The whole car is NXT Tech Wax now. I am keeping it up with NXR Speed Wax. Like I said, I don't have the eye to pick up wax differentials. But since some folks do, and some other folks think they do, I would go with whatever wax "everybody says" look best on black.

FWIW, I would not QD or Duster a black car unless is just has dust from sitting in the garage and has not been driven. That is just my experience. Everybody else in the whole world may have a different one.

Sorry for any typos, but I am "administratively" prohibited from editing my posts after about 20 seconds.

                  You really don't want to use a 7006 pad...8006 or 9006

Thanks Mort, I think thats what I meant. I was thinking the finishing pad, which I thought was 7006 but might be the 9006.

Monk, I do it this Wednesday coming up so I have not seen it as of yet, but I will let you guys know and put up some pictures.
