    Mike...

    Nice collection of "Meguiar's Antiques"!

PS: nobody can fault you for the info on DC1.

Mike- I'm scratching my head a little too. Maybe my confusion is similar to Monk's so I'll pose the Q my way:

I gather Color-X contains more/harsher/etc. diminishing abrasives whereas DC #1 contains fewer/milder diminishing abrasives, correct?

Which of the two contains the stronger *chemical* cleaners, i.e., cleaners that work via non-abrasive means?

I suppose we're just splitting hairs here but I'd like to know as I find myself recommending these products fairly often.

Same question here, I think --- left in email as well. I have vehicles that have been waxed, inconsistently and poorly, some for several years.

Thiere's moss and lichen, growing in the dirt in the crevices under the wax. No kidding.

I want to clean off the wax to switch to using a sealant.

What product -- any manufacturer -- both cleans and removes wax, and doesn't leave behind new wax?

I want to switch to using one of the new sealants-- removing wax from the crevices and around the windows, etc. where it traps dust and dirt over time is important.

I'll probably start using Klasse's pair of products, cleaner and sealer.

          Check out the MSDS sheets:

It lists what is in the products.
kaolin is in DC1 as well as others Its a cleaner. A fine china clay. Looked it up in the dictionary.
Thats why I scratch my head about a cleaner wax. How can it clean then leave a wax behind?

Sounds funny but I'll bet it's more common than we think. Life has a way of popping up everywhere.

Any of Meguiar's "cleaner" or "cleaner/polish" products, Deep Crystal step 1, ScratchX, #9, #80, #82, MPPC, etc, etc, will clean without leaving wax.

Chemistry. If the formula can break the molecular bonds between the dirt and the paint while in it's liquid state, cause those contaminants to absorb into the carrier and allow the wax (or sealant) to displace the contaminants while it bonds to the paint and then cures, voila, cleaner/wax.

But the mere presence of a potentially abrasive ingredient doesn't mean a product will be *functionally abrasive* on automotive paint. There's a lot more to it than "containing an abrasive material or not", including the size/etc. of the abrasive and the other ingredients.

A while back somebody said that exact thing about, IIRC, #7 and that product is *not* functionally abrasive no matter if it does contain the clay.

I am looking for something that just takes me down to the paint, so I can come back up again with sealant/wax, assuming my paint is otherwise clean and swirl-free.
What do you mean by IP? If you're talking Menzerna IP, then
I(ntensive)P(olish) is a light compound, along the lines of DACP.

OK, I heard by email from the inquiry -- all the car wash products are designed not to remove wax.

Dawn dishwashing soap does remove wax and can be used (once, gently, dilute dilute dilute) for the purpose of changing from wax to a sealer; it's what to use for getting the car clean down to the paint.

As they say everywhere -- gently, gently.

I think I'll use distilled water too, for this.

                      Try to keep it simple,

Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner is a light paint cleaner. ColorX is a strong cleaner/wax. If you need light cleaning you can use both because part of the cleaning action of any products is greatly affected by how you apply it and what you use to apply with.

Use the paint cleaner if you want to do a multi-step process which includes a dedicated product for cleaning the paint. Use the cleaner/wax if you only want to do one thing to the paint besides washing it.

It's really a lot less complicated then this thread is making it out to be. Evaluate your car's finish, choose the appropriate products to get the job done while meeting your goals.

Yes. Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner applied gently will do this for you. Remember, part of the cleaning ability of any product is in part affected by how you apply it and the material you apply it with.

If you want very light cleaning, the apply Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner with a clean, soft foam applicator and a gentle touch. You will effectively clean the paint without removing any paint.

If you really want to get AR, and I'm sure some people in this thread do, then at some level you may be removing some paint molecules, but that could be said of touching the paint with your clean finger.

How AR do you want to get?

Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner or ScratchX will do what you're asking above.

I'd challenge you to use our ColorX instead of AIO, as most people find they like the results they get with our cleaner/wax, (ColorX), better than the results they get with the Klasse cleaner/wax, (AIO), and they also like the cost difference and easily available part.

I'm not a big SG fan, somewhere on this forum I have pictures that show how it works kind of like Elmer's Glue and the more you use the less clear your finish will be as it dries opaque like Elmer's Glue. But hey,

You can't always tell what an ingredient is being used for by what is listed on an MSD sheet.

While it may be hard for you to understand how a product can clean, polish and also leave behind protection, it really does happen.

If it didn't work, products like A12 Cleaner/Wax wouldn't be selling incredibly well after 33 years. Think about.
