Dry it so that next time you go out in the rain, it'll be shiny and clean and ready for you to repeat the ritual when you get back.

Give it to me!!!! Just Kidding. I would be very cautious about drying it or QD. That is a prime recipe for swirls. I would just wash it again.
My wife always says "I know when it's going to rain...because you just washed the car". I hate when she's right.

If you just washed the car or if it was clean when rained you can dry it or quik detail, but if you where driving when it rained,I think that it's a bad idea to dry it, you have to wash the car. Just my 2 cents.

That's a good point. My car is always clean, well except right now cause I drove it this mornings rain and went through a construction zone that was flooded--car is covered in ash like mud--definitely not something to dry or QD off.

It's going to get washed immediately.

If there was no dust on it when it rained (if you just got done washing it) then you can dry and/or QD. One thing that helps is to blot rather than wipe to get the majority of water off the paint. That will really cut down on the swirling. I find the Water Magnet towels to be really good for that!
