  • metallic flake

I have a rather new car (9 months old) and I can't get the metallic flakes to "pop". I'm using DC1, #7, and NXT and i get a nice shine but the flakes don't glitter like I've seen on other cars. My car is a metallic blue. Maybe my procedure is wrong or maybe I should use a different LSP? Please Advise. Thanks!

You cannot change the actual flake with any topical product you apply. The term, pop is one used to describe the beautiful appearance of metallic flakes under the clear coat when viewed in the right light.

The most you can do is to make the clear coat as clear as you can and it reads like you're doing this already. After two thin coats of any wax that creates a clear, reflective finish you're metallic flake is either going to pop or it's not. It could be the size and type of flake?

You might also try viewing your finish in different light and at different angles as these will effect how the flake looks to your eyes.

On a personal note, I like NXT Tech Wax and use it on most of the cars I detail, but I also like M21 and use it too.

The only step you are missing is to clay the surface.. it might improve things a little as well.

Having it completly clean will give the best look possible, if there is any improvement left to be had.

Good call Murr1525, I was going to suggest this even though the finish/car is only 9 months old, you just never know what's in the air around your car if you drive it on a daily basis and park it outdoors at least part of the time.
