  • Question Regarding Hood Repaint

Recently I had my hood repainted by a Ford dealer bodyshop. I got it back on saturday and noticed that there were random small bumps stuck into the paint. I once heard before that it happens when the shop isn't clean and dust settles as it dries. Is this true? Furthermore as they were putting my grill back they obviously hit the body and now this brand new paint is flaking off. How exactly should I approach these guys? Would this warrent another repaint? Thanks

Your right, those bumps are refered to as "trash" in that got caught in the paint.

Even in a spotless shop, its not uncommon for a few bumps, but if its as bad as you say it is, I'm sure they just sprayed it and went.

Now if they chipped it, of course you need a re-paint. See if you can inquire to their prepping process for painting, make sure they keep it spotless.

Tell them that they were unclean about re-painting the hood and inflicted damage to it, and they should take responsiblity and re-paint it.

    Keep us updated.

I really appreciate your response Sirius. I'll be taking this situation to the manager. He has been very kind to me, so obviously I'm going to approach him the same way. I think this time I'll install the grille myself so they don't end up chipping paint again. My only concern at this current moment is that they might shift the blame on me (with the grille) because it's a full replacement billet grille with non-OEM brackets. However THEY put it on so IMO they are responsible. Thanks again will update tomorrow.

those dust bumps should have been wet sanded flat and polished so that the hood is as nice as the factory job...every shop gets em, its if they bother to deal with them that makes the differance

they should also repair the damaged area..is it a chip or is it flaking off? it shoudnt flake off if prepared right
