  • Tire dressing "sling" question

How do you guys keep your tire dressing of choice from "slinging" all over the place? I've used NXT Insane, but used it with a foam applicator. It wasn't as shiny as I hoped. I tried doing a full spray on a different car and the tire just soaked it right up and it didn't even looked like I even tried, but I digress. When I used it full force, the mist went all over the place and landed on the car. It was annoying having to buff it off the van.

be careful with the sprayer, cover the paint if its windy outside. If the insane shine doesn't work, try cleaning the tires first with the NXT tire cleaner. Then the insane shine should give you and insane shine

also buff with a cloth about 5 mins after you apply the product, and it should not "sling"

I have never had any sling from tire dressings. I guess they only sling if you apply too much and/or don't wipe them afterwards. I usually apply the Endurance stuff with a foam pad and lett it dry about 1/2h and then wipe of any excess.

I'm pretty sure, it isn't the foam applicator, as they are used by many people with great success.

        Soooo...

You didn't mention that you cleaned the tire before applying the tire shine. If you didn't, you may want to give that a try. You could use NXT tire cleaner or M40. Then apply the Insane Shine.

If that doesn't work your tires rubber compound may be resistant to absorbing tire shine.

Just a couple of my thoughts on the subject.

if you are using liquid based spray then you should spray it on an applicator first. Eagle One has a two pack you can get from any auto store. Try not to soak the applicator becuase a little can go a long way. Also when you wipe it in just make sure you don't push down too hard when you get up closer to the top of the tire. Alot of sling comes from excess liquid sitting in the grooves. I also wipe them down afterwards. For tires that soak up and don't show, you can spray them and let them sit and then re-apply and it should work. if you use too much silcon based dressing it can give tires that look over time. Hopefully, that helps.

Different tires can sling as well. What may work on one wont on another.

However, I do have to agree that the Nxt Insane Shine Spray isnt as glossy as I had hoped, and I am thinking it might be from wiping around with the applicator. Durability seems a little low too compared with people using the foam, but as I said, it could be the tires.

Thanks for everyone's input. I think I'll use the NXT insane spray for the company van and buy myself some Endurance shine. I've heard some good things about it on other threads. I'm looking for high gloss with decent life.

I agree with Murr, it's the tires that usually cause it and the amount of product used on the application.

what works on my wifes vehilcle or a customers won't work on mine as I usually have sling on my car unless I go back later and try removing any excess around the edges of the tire. I have noticed NXT insane shine aerosol doesn't sling after applying it, but ALL wipe on applications I've tried will do it unless I can get the excess removed and it sits for a while.

                  Some do, some don't....
