  • Nxt Tech Wax Advice

I just used the NXT Tech wax for the first time ever yesterday. I really liked the ease of use and the no white residue after wiping it off. But unfortunately, I forgot one step of prepping before applying the wax. I forgot to polish it!! So, my question is, what is the proper proceedure in applying the polish now?

    A. Can I just just apply the polish after this first coat?
    B. Do I have to clay the car again to remove the first coat, then polish, then wax again?
    C. Is there another way to remove the wax besides claying again, so I can polish it.
    D. Is a cleaner necessary before a polish?

    Thanks

something like #80 or scratch x will take the nxt right off and leave it ready for a new coat

you ask what steps are required...hows your finish ??

if it looks great , like a brand new car, then wash/clay and nxt would be cool. if the finish has some swirls on it then wash/clay/scratch x /nxt would be suitable

    have a read here..

Does your paint really need a polish?
If not wait until the wax is gone...

I you want to remove the wax you can also use the DC Paint Cleaner, il will remove the wax and prepare the surface for your polish of choice.

The paint is the original paint of 18 years. It is in great condition but doesn't have that really shiney/wet look after waxing that I am looking for. I thought a polish would do the trick, but I forgot that step in my detailing. So I am looking to remove the Tech wax and apply some Deep Crystal System Polish to see if that will help. Is there another way to remove the wax besides Scratch X? What about Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner to remove the wax? I have a little bottle of the Cleaner Wax. Will that take of the Tech wax and prep for polishing?

Okay, I'm sure I'm gonna get flamed but I say wash the car using dishsoap, twice... The wax will be mostly gone and a hell of a lot quicker then using DC1, IMO....

                *cringe*

Also your chances of inflicting swirls are probably greatly increased by using dish soap., since ther are not nearly as many suds/lubricating substances in dish soap.

I personally thinking dishsoap is very slick and never had a problem with that, the main concern with dishsoap is it dries out the paint. Fine, but if your gonna throw DC2 or 7 on top, I would feel that any drying would be curbed...

Dishwash soap won't remove NXT. Try it for yourself. NXT is really durable.

Another way to remove wax is AP Cleaner 4:1 and rinse thoroughly.
Spray AP Cleaner for a spot test, let sit a few second and rinse.
Check if wax is removed, if not: spray again let sit or agitate with a good wash mitt and rinse well.
The spot test will give you an idea on how to work with it on the entire finish.

Is this normal after a good detailing? See the circles around the sunlight? I got this image off a Mequiars photo page after a full detail. It still shows circles even after a good detail.

That pic is what we would call swirls, or spiderwebbing.

It is normal after a detail if the person has done nothing to remove them, or was careles and added then during the detailing process. However, those swirls are quite bad, and have built up over a long time. If a person just washes and waxes, or washes, uses a mild cleaner, and waxes, those swirls will all stay there.

They are basicaly lots and lots of small scratches, so they have to be removed like scratches. Here are a few links talking about swirls, and things like that, and what you can do about them.

Even after looking at the links about Scratch X, there are still swirl marks on the paint. They are not completely gone, but it is better after use it looks like.

What about Color X? Can this be used to remove the NXT Tech wax as a cleaner/polish? Then apply Tech wax again on top of it?

Or should I just use ScratchX followed by Deep Crystal System Polish, then Tech Wax?

Yes, depending on how deep some scratches are, they may not be able to be entirely removed. A machine will be able to remove more scratches/swirls than you can by hand, but there is still a limit.

Well, if you want to work a cleaner/wax in is entirely up to you. I have some, and it is great for quicker details on a daily driver. So a process might look like:

                              1. Wash
                              2. Clay as needed
                              3. ColorX or Cleaner/Wax
                              4. Wax - Nxt

                              Or:

                              1. Wash
                              2. Clay
                              3. Clean - Scratch X, or DC#1 in the future when swirls are gone.
                              4. Polish - DC#2
                              5. Wax - Nxt
                              6. Wax - Nxt - Remember, 2 thin coats is best.

Both ways are fine, though ScratchX will remove more marring than ColorX can. Just have to see what you have time for, what fits your needs.

As far as removing Nxt, any good paint cleaner can do this. So DC#1, ScratchX, ColorX, etc can all be used. No need to remove that before using the ScratchX.
