  • Scratch-X - can it be used with a buffer?

....and by buffer I mean a cheapo one from the local motor factors and not a quality brand like the PC.

I have a bad shoulder and constant polishing aggrevates it.

I want to use the Scratch-X on my bonnet, but I know that it is really supposed to be applied by hand so I'm not sure if the buffer will break the compound down before it has a chance to work?

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

It is not supposed to be applied by a buffer, but you can probably get away with it.

    ScratchX is amazing and safe.

I have always used ScratchX by hand. Just be sure to start with a Dual Action not a rotary and do not use any harsh pads.

Use maybe the 8000 series Meguiar pads.

Run it at extrmely low speeds becuase hand work is extremely slow.

Before I purchased the PC to use with the Mirror Glaze series of products, I use to use Scratch-X with my "cheapo" buffer all the time. Use to work great with a foam pad. I would basically apply it and work it in using a good foam pad, and then remove and buff it out with the SS microfiber. My guess would be the buffer would just be an alternative to the hand, since it's power is no where close to that of a DA/PC.

^^ I should add, I've removed quite a few ugly scratches off of a black car with this method.

If I remember right, ScratchX, at first, was not recommended to be used with a PC because it would gum up.

Recently, though, I think they reformulated it for it to work with DA's.

Now, I am unsure if your polisher would have enough power to remove swirls and other marring. Some of these are only suitable for applying waxes, and sometimes they arent even well suited for that.
