I really like the Gold Class Trim Detailer. The truck I use it on is new, but it seems to last. It takes wax residue off well. It is a gel form and only costs about 4 dollars a bottle if you can find it. I picked it up from Napa on special order.
Watch your pennies and your dollars will take care of themself.
I have heard of the torch thing to bring the color back in the flares, but I've heard of it being very difficult to get the color even. Those industrial heat guns have been tried too. The color will fade again though, just like before. Eventually, from heating and reheating, they will become more and more brittle. I figured painting them again would be a little easier if a touch-up is needed, and a more consistent color. I didn't take them off to paint them, I just masked around them and hit them with 4 light coats, about 20 minutes apart.
Here's pics of my flares close up. The second one is where all the rock chips are, on the front side of the rear flare. Some of the specks on the first one are lint from wiping the rain off.
Good Luck,
Glen

The key to getting a good flare paint-job is to make sure they use the correct flex and adhesion promoters. The plastic flares do flex to a degree and the paint will get destroyed if it can't flex along with it.
These guys are a very reputable they take care of all the dealerships stuff
1) They don't sound reputable because they won't stand behind their work.
2) Dealerships are the the least reputable people on the face of the planet. When dealers repair paint defects, they want it done cheaply and quickly... not two things I associate with quality work.
Do you what you're going to do... but please post pics of the finished work, and 6 months from now too.
The club I belong to... I've been to meets where there were over 50 Tacomas in attendance. So I've pretty much seen it all and am a technical resource for people on their Tacomas. I've seen what happens when a shop paints a Tacoma flare for the first time. 8-)
