  • Used ScrachX on Small Area after Wash

    Hi,

I did an extrememly quick car wash and wax renewal today.

I washed, rinsed, dried & quik waxed via the spray wax.

Next, I noticed some new tar marks on the lower door pannels. I removed the tar with Stoner's Tarminator becuase I couldn't find the Meguair's Tar remover

All was very well except there was a small smudge/streak on the passengery side. It didn't look too bad, but it was about 8 inches long and would not wash off. It would not come off with tar remover either, yet it looked a bit like very very thin streaked tar or something nasty.

The point is, the silver paint just looked a lot darker in a streak like something very well bonded to the paint made it look noticably bad in an area.

I decided to give ScratchX a try becuase I still don't own a Porter Cable.

I took a 100% terry cloth and applied ScratchX with passion. It seemed to be drying fast, but I kept applying more and using a lot of passion. After about 5 minutes, I wipped off the remaining ScratchX to see beautiful Silver again! It looked just about as good as the already waxed paint.

I took Meguiar's Gold Class and applied it over the entire area and a bit more just to make sure to completely re-wax the area I used ScratchX on.

My previous uses of ScratchX have been to remove a 2 inch bright green mark probably from a shopping cart or a card door. I have a tiny dent on the drivers side right in the middle of the door, but none of my paint got scratched. It did successfully remove the green paint.

One other use I used it for was to buff an audio CD that would not play and had many tiny scratches.

In all the above situations, ScratchX has easily been very valuable to me.

I currently have a tube that is 90 to 95% full and I would say that it has probably already saved me over $100 easily.

Glad to hear you like ScratchX! I remember being told not to use ScratchX with a terry towel, but i do not remember why I think it may cause light micromarring but i don't know

I've used scratch x with a terry towel when I've needed more 'bite'.

Last year I had 3 bird dropping etchings on my bonnet that refused to shift using scratch x with a foam pad but were removed when I swapped to a terry towel. There's a consequent risk of more marring with this but I followed that up by using the foam pad to apply scratch x, then DC1 & 2.

        Removed the etchings completely

I'm getting myself a tube of scratchX I guess - my car had already three bird dropping etches when I bought it.

Hope it works as well for you as it did for me; just bear in mind I cleaned the bird droppings off after only a few hours of exposure in the sun and they'd still etched the paint, if the previous owner left them on your car for days they could be deeper.

Have you seen the thread of black Viper with bird etchings? They can take a lot of shifting!

mine somewhat look the same indeed - well as long as they are less visible than now I'd be happy enough. I'll try to take a photograph when I get home tonight.
