  • 21 Vs. NXT

    Hello,

I'm sure this question has been asked a million times already - sorry for the double (if not triple) post.

I've been reading through several posts and notice a lot of people use #21 as their choice of wax... I currently own and use NXT Liquid and to be honest, I haven't tried any other Megs wax as yet, so I don't know the difference.

Any major differences between the two? Does one look better than the other on darker finishes?

Here's a picture of my car:

It currently has #80 and a single coat of NXT Liquid Wax on it. I'm waiting for my #83 to arrive, and will be repeating the 5 step process again. Not sure if I should use #21 at that point?

    Any suggestions? Comments?

    Thanks!

I'm leaving to go use some today on a "Complete", buff-out of a black BMW M3; I've never done a direct side by side comparison of the two products on properly prepared paint, but if I get a chance today will and then I'll post what I see.

I really like both products and it is hard for me to choose between the two. #21 seems more reflective and NXT Paste seems to give more depth. #21 leaves a slicker surface and the slickness seems to last longer than NXT.

I am amazed how fast the water sheets off my car after rinsing when the surface has been treated with #21.

For now, I apply two coats of #21 on successive weekends, then a coat of NXT Paste. I use the NXT Speed Detailer, or Last Touch, as my QD maintenance product. You should wait 12-24 hours in between coats to let the polymers set up. In warmer weather it may not take as long for the polymers to set up.

I think Nxt is officialy the longest lasting wax, but #21 seems to keep up its looks/slickness a bit longer. So with Nxt itreally helps to use a QD or Spray Wax after most washes.

Unfortunately, I think "looks" and "durability" are opposing factors, so hard to get the best of both in one product.

          Hi Mike,

Any updates on the possible comparison?

I agree, and I especially like the NXT Speed Detailer. It adds protection, which Quik Detailer and Final Inspection do not do.

The #21 definitely stays slicker longer. Slickness is one of the ways that I judge durability.

When I put NXT Paste on top of #21, I get the best of both worlds.

It looks like you want up and down the street washing all of the cars. They are all pretty shiny.

I was using NXT, however I got a sample of #21. I used it on my wife's car which is a daily driver. I must say I like the #21 better than the NXT. For me it is easier to apply and I like how the rain rolls off. It looks good on her silver car but I can't really tell a difference between the two waxes as far as looks.

                Cheers!

I couldn't do the comparison because I didn't do the detail, I didn't do the detail because when I arrived at the customer's house I found the Condo garage to small to work in for the type of work I had to do, it was just too tight of a fit, thus I scheduled it for a day down the road.

I did do a Test Spot on the hood, but this car will not work for a wax comparison as it is not black, it's a dark blue metallic and any wax test dealing with appearance must be done on black paint.

In the end, you really need to buy and try both products to see which one you like the best, that's really the only way to know.

I see a definite difference there. What was used on the right side?

I agree about trying both. Still can't make up my mind so I use both. #21 is so slick it makes drying the car off much faster after a car wash. The water just sheets right off! But it still sheets right off even when topped off with NXT Paste.

Here is what #21 topped with NXT Paste looks like:
