    Sun Gun

3m make a tool called the Sun Gun. It is designed for color matching, but I am wondering if it would work with finding swirls and scrathces.

    Any thoughts?

You'd be just as well having a paint code run through a local body shop if you wanted to match paint.

If you want to find swirls, any Xenon or white-ish light should do well. I suppose this light would work as it proably output light at 3000k color, something similiar to the sun. White light is more about 4000k

The idea with the 3M light is to match a factory or other finish that has faded with age, not a paint that's necessarily brand new. Getting a factory paint code is one thing, but correctly mixing and spraying to match is tougher than just that simple step.
See the big picture, enjoy the details
