Well you missed a good one on me... so I will share the embarrassment with you. Started out by traveling 60 miles to get the product "I" wanted. here's what I found and had to hit 4 differant stores the one store that had the most Meguiar's product had the highest prices....(go figure)
clay bar
micro fiber towels
#9 (N/A)
#7 (forgot this all together)
#20
#5
NXT tech wax and spray booster wax
Seems that clay is not a standard item, most stores did not carry it at all and I was not able to find Meguiar's clay bar anywhere. so I ended up with MOTHERS. so mush for being a loyalist.
I started out with a Meguiar's Quick suds I don't think I should have used this product so soon. (the finish on my truck is hammered from abuse and I wanted to strip as much junk off as possible with out harming the paint/clear coat any more than I already have.)
Being the first time using clay it was very easy. Having some experience doing body work claying was not much different. I killed a clay bar that the manufacture says it will do the job 3 times. The think I was most surprised about the whole job was I DID NOT DROP IT. The hardest time I had was trying to keep the truck it the shade, and I live in the woods.
Now its back to the wash booth this time I used DAWN , (I can see you all cringing) but I did not want to take any chance of two different manufacture product messing with the end result. drying was done with the "ABSORBER" I'am surprised how long this towel has lasted, 4+years and counting. it has out lasted all the shammies(sp) combined
Now by this time I'm freaking out because my passengers side door is filled with holograms and swirls.
Next I tried the "scratch x " it did what it says it will do but I did not like the finish. The depth was not there and it did not have a silky smooth feel to it with the back of me hand.
(IMHO)I feel it filled the swirls up and not take them out. Not what I was looking for time for plan B.
I borrowed a black & Decker #955 from work. this is not a powerful or fast machine and it is the first time using one these to restore my finish.
I tried 3 different Meguiar's product in 3 different places in 3 different ways.
1 # 5 and then #20
2 # 20 and then #5
3 # 5 and then NXT
1 showed the best results
2 seems that #5 was still lifting through #20 because the pad was dirtier then test1
3 did very little for the swirls I have
So I was off and running going like a bat out of h*ll using #5 did the whole truck before wiping down and switching the machine over to a new terry cloth padd
#20 did the same thing, whole truck then wipe down.
I started applying NTX wax, had the hood, drivers door, drivers side of the tonneau cover and the wife decides she wants to go out and eat......ARUGGGGG what the heck it will give NTX a good time to dry,set up.
Well as we were eating at the restaurant the lights flicker. Now a lot of times with me 1 and 1 don't always come up with 2 but I knew this was not good. Sure enough one huge thunder/rain storm rolled in and decided to stay all night. What could I do no car port or garage and all I did today was getting ruined buy the heavy rain and wind.
The next morning I go out to see the damage from the night before and what a mess twigs buds leaves all over the truck and the NXT is a mess.
You ever wanna see a grown man cry? It look bad like someone painted the truck flat white over night. the only thing I could think of was to grab the hose push off the big stuff and see what's left and it seemed to work somewhat I still needed to deal with the NTX that was on the truck for at least 6-8 hours with lots of rain to boot I grabbed one of the new microfiber towels and wiped and rolled at the same time so if there were anny grit in or on the NTX I would not scratch any more than I have in the past. I could not belive it!! it wiped off!! relatively easy too. I have read post after post saying the "they" had such a hard time removing NXT and i put it through this and " I " had no problem with it. It did take some effort but not like leaving carnauba wax on in the sun light.
After all that has happened I decided to apply NXT with a polisher. Here is where I have some uncertainty because a little NXT goes a long long way, Let me elaborate. I put about a 32nd to 1/8 bead on the pad ran it in on the hood did this twice form that point on a 32nd bead on the outer edge of the pad would do 3/4 or more of a door with a semi thin film real easy to wipe off and I'm down to my last microfiber.
I have noticed that NXT will not and did not look or feel like it was waxed with carnauba. BUT after a while the shine was getting better and better It seamed the longer it sat untouched after removing the film the better the finish got including the silky smooth feel.
the truck look awesome most of the swirl marks are gone still have some but not as bad as before.
I know, I know this post does nothing with out pictures.
working on it. Seems our camera and portable dvd player have disappeared. funny don't remember them having legs but all my kids have the same answere...UUUNNIIINNO....go figure.
Its late and have not proof read this yet. so do not correct it and send it back..
