  • Splashed paint on my wife's white Toyota Highlander

What is the best way to get off paint that splashed on a white Toyota Highlander? The Highlander has more wax on it then I have hair on my head. My wife was deiving at night and paint splashed on the left side covering the bottoms of the doors. I sprayed on WD-40 so that the paint wouldn't harden. What can I use to safely remove the paint without destroying the finish. The Highlander really gleams, and this paint that splashed on is a brown color. The paint would not come off with Meguiars car wash and a baby diaper cleaning. I let it air dry and sprayed on the WD-40. What should I do now?

    Thanks for your help.

You will likely get better results on this if you move it to Detailing 101

Well, if it is fresh, I would say something like Meguiars Smooth Surface Clay would be a good start.

Do you still have the problem?

I can type up an answer but if you've found a way to move forward let me know.

I have had this problem and ended up using mineral spirits. Mineral spirits should not hurt a factory paint. Take your time and use a soft cotton cloth. Let the mineral spirits do the work. If it's an epoxy paint, mineral spirits will probably not get the job done.

Thank you. The mineral spirits did the job. Worked carefully and slowly using a baby diaper and the paint came off. Washed the Highlander and reapplied wax.

Thank you again for your suggestion.

Ok, this might sound like a ridiculous question....but where do you get mineral spirits?

Any hardware store or paint store.

Mineral spirits can be purchased in a paint or hardware store. Mineral spirits is similar to paint thiner.
