  • I hate washing the car!

I hate washing the car because it seems like everytime I do I find a new dent, chip or scratch! Found one right under the door handle that has already started to rust! I also always use the keyless entry so I know it is not that. Guess I need to learn paint chip repair now.

Thanks for letting me rant. I fell better now that I got that of my chest.

Fortunately, the first few are the worst and then it gets a little easier to take....

I was doing a little experiment on my company car with stone chips. I filled the chip every day with touch up paint, and when I was satisfied the chipped area was about level (after the touch up paint dried) I aggresively went after the spot with Scratch X. It seemed like it leveled the whole thing out and it literally disapeared. I have not been brave enough to try it on my Mustang, but I have fixed a few spots on my brothers company car the same way. I was even able to make a good size scratch almost disapear on his car. Find some one with a company owned car, and try it out. I have used this method on White, Blue, Green, and on sandstone colors all with equal success.

Reading machs reply, got me thinking of this toothpick thing i seen on some site the other nite for scratches. Dipping the toothpick in the cap of a spraypaint or touchup paint and using it to fill in the scratch. Wonder if that will work then use scratchx and just wax over it. Has anyone tryed the toothpick maneuver and if so how did it turn out?

I've noticed that you have a GTO. It's funny that you posted this, because I washed my newly acquired 04 GTO yesterday and I couldn't believe the number of rock chips in the hood, and even one in the roof!

The GTO's are notorious for having "bad" paint, meaning that it flakes and gets chipped very easily. I guess there's no escaping this unless you get it re-sprayed or don't drive it (not fun). I need to start touching up my chips, but I have a Quicksilver Metalic GTO, not a black one. I can't imagine filling all of those chips on the black GTO.

Hopefully they'll become smaller and less between as time goes on.

Have fun with the Goat too!!!

Oh, I have fun with the goat! Drive it like you stole it

Actually I try to not let it bother me too much.. However, last week I found a largerchip on the top of the hood of my wife's Lexus and then a couple of new ones on the goat. Just got to me. But like I said time to learn a new skill.

I think that for mine, I'm actually going to try the touch-up and sand method. Now that I own a silver car, i'm less paraniod about wet sanding. But I'm not sure about what you plan to do on black.

When I get mine done i'll try to post pics of the results.

so none of you are wet sanding down the touch up paint? thats what ill be trying.. I doubt scratchX will wear it down enough, it should leave it glossy tho_

That's from the small rocks kicked up by Mach1s that keep passing you!

Actually, I think that an '04 GTO vs a Mach 1 might be a good race, untill you hit a turn....

But an '05 or '06 with the LS7 block??? No chance.

I dunno. I don't have any rock chips on the front of my car!

                              I strongly feel that a GTO (04) would smoke a Mach1. Ive beaten a Mach 1 in my 05 G35 Coupe - 6speed manual. 298hp, 3500+lbs, 260ft lbs of torque_

Lost to a New GTO tho, 400 hp of american muscle..!
