  • Meguiar's newbie looking for advice

    Hi folks...

My name is Grant and I am from Scotland. I am new to the Meguiar's range of products and therefore I'm looking for some advice.

I have a 1999 Audi S3 in Imola Yellow and I like to keep it looking good at all times.

Last week I purchased Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner, Hot Rims and Quik Wax, Lambswool Wash Mitt and the Microfiber Drying Towel. I've never seen my car so shiney!

However, I noticed that I have a small hazy/swirl patch on my roof which I think is due to the effects of bird's excrement and I don't know the best way to remove it. Would "ScratchX" or "Swirl Remover" be the best product to use?

As I said before, I am new to car care in this depth, and never realised the vast range of products Meguair's have on offer.

Have I bought the correct products? What other products do you recommend, i.e. wax/polish?

Sorry to ask so many questions on my first post!

    Thanks
    Grant

Welcome to meguiarsonline.com Grant! We're glad to have you aboard!

Unfortunately, without seeing a picture, I'm not sure that I can give you an opinion. I have a hunch I know what you're talking about (a small 'cracked' looking spot where the clearcoat might be failing?) but, I'd like to see it prior to taking a stab at a potential solution.

Are you able to post a picture?

Also, how comfortable are you with other aspects of detailing (ie: wet sanding, compounding, polishing?)

We'll look forward to hearing back from you!

Sure, I'll try and take a pic tonight.

I've never heard of wet sanding or compounding... I guess I must be a detailing virgin!

        Grant,

No problem bud! I'm more than happy to try to help out. Also, don't worry that you haven't tried wetsanding and such. We can hopefully work on it without some of the more advanced techniques.

Again, welcome to MOL and we'll look forward to seeing your pictures.

It sounds like clearcoat failure to me too, but as RockPick stated I wouldn't want to definetly say that without seeing a picture first.

            Thanks for the welcome Bri9801...

This evening I washed my car with the Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner and then applied Meguiars Quik Wax.

I thought at first that the said hazy/swirl patch had gone, and from many angles it looked as though it had! So I called my sister (who was going to be taking her digital camera round for me) and told her not to bother with the camera anymore.

However, after my dinner, guess what I saw...

Anyway, the car is looking great - except for this mark on my roof, and I am getting the camera tomorrow, so I will have pics for you then!

Thanks for your help so far!

            Grant
