  • Using Color X

Hello fellas just have a question about using ColorX everytime i use NXT wax on my car. Do you think that its bad to use ColorX everytime?

  • #2
My opinion (though I could be very wrong, so wait till somebody with more knowledge shows up and corrects me ) is that it probably won't hurt the paint, though it is probably overkill. I believe that ColorX has abbrasives, and the way Mike explains it, it is a very aggresive cleaner wax.

Using ColorX then would strip your old wax and polishes left behind from the previous application, as well as grind the abbrasives against the finish (which over a long time might thin the clear coat, but again most of the cutting power, which I believe is very little is probably used in removing the reminets of the last wax).

I would venture to say that if you acheive the finish you like with ColorX, then I would just continue to protect it with NXT, since it offers great duriablity and a very good shine.

The first step after cleaning is to evaluate you surface, and then determine the steps you need to achieve the results you want. I would think that if you satifisfied with the surface the NXT will be more then enough, and overtime, when you feel a more aggresive product is needed, use the ColorX.

(I hope I'm correct cause that was a lot of typing)

Yup, thats pretty much correct, so your typing was worth it.

It is a more agressive cleaner wax, but keep in mind that is compared to the regular Cleaner/Wax, which is about the mildest cleaner Meguiars makes.

Also, remember part of the cleaning power comes from you. If you dont have oxidation/swirls to remove, then dont work the cleaner in as hard, be more gentle, like applying a wax.

I use it all the time (every 2 monthsish), as I have a daily driver, top it with #21, and love it.

Well today as i was applying ColorX i was trying to rub it out with a little effort. Do you think that it has the ability to cut to my clear coat. Now i am alilttle worried that i over done it by rubbing it to much

Actually, I believe Meguiars says that ColorX is safe for regular use. It is a more aggressive cleaner wax, yes, but it isnt "aggressive" as far as that word is concerned. It has more "cleaning" ability, as well as diminishing abraisives that diminish as it is worked in.

That said, don't be afraid to use colorx, especially if you like to use it during your regular detail routine. It is very safe.

I just applied and removed ColorX on my wife's white 2005 TAcoma 4X4. I left the pc on the shelf and did all the work by hand. I really worked the ColorX and it took me only forty minutes start to finish.

Earlier in the day I worked over my Hemi Quad Cab with ColorX using my pc. It took a tad bit longer. That big black Hemi is a lot of truck.

The more I use ColorX, the better I like it. Easy on, easy off white excellent results on both white and black.

Sorry, I haven't got into that yet. I just got a digital camera a couple of months ago.

ColorX is inexpensive and readily available. I suggest that you just give it a try. It certainly won't set you back much in either time or money.

Mosca who also is on this forum a lot really likes the stuff too.

How often should you apply colorX?

It was easy to apply and the results were good. I followed someone elses advise and applied the #21 after.

                          Car looks new.

But something that easy to apply...how long should that last? And for the next waxing...whether it be 1 week or 2 months or 6 months should I use something else and apply the colorX when needed????

My minivan hadnt been detailed in a lonnng time...the colorX brought the color out great!

                          Thanks

I use ColorX + #21 every 2 monthsish. I like the fresh waxed look, plus I am parked out doors, daily driver, so things dont last as long as they would if it was garaged, etc. So I never give it a chance to all wear off.

                              Thanks

The ColorX was so easy to use just seems like it would need to be rewaxed sooner.

                              And for the record...

Murr1525 I like using the #21 after colorX as well!

                              Thanks for the tip!
