  • meguiars - can you tell me about these old Mercedes wax?

They are leather conditioners and a the other looks like a cleaner wax. Are they similiar to any present meguiars products?

I found them in a closet, brand new from 1996!

You can still buy them, along with a Mercedes branded paint cleaner, at some Mercedes dealerships.

Although Meguiars official statement is that it's a custom formula, I found the cleaner to be very similar to the old Medallion cleaner, but not quite as strong.
    I want 4" Softbuff pads!

These products are custom formulated for Mercedes-Benz accommodating their requests for products specific to their wants and needs. So on paper, the the Mercedes-Benz line formulas are different and unique compared to similar products in the same category.

At the same time, how many different ways can you make a paint cleaner? or a plastic polish? The answer is there is a limit to the range in which you can create a formula, so yes the products in the Mercedes-Benz line are different, but at the same time they are similar to like products in the same category.

That is, paint cleaners, whether a paint cleaner formulated for Mercedes-Benz, or for our Deep Crystal line are paint cleaners, they are created to clean the paint, that means they are formulated to remove defects and prepare the paint for either polishing or waxing. There are differences in the formulas but they still perform the same job.

          Does that help?

Thanks that helps, but one more question.. i notice that the description says "contains waxes, polymers, silicones and resins"

isn't silicone considered BAD by today's standard. I read stuff now and people usually talk about silicone like it's a bad thing..

I found this bottle, it was standing in a showcase in the Duth Meguiar's Detailing Center, where I made this picture:

                I just love detailing

Silicone is inert, it doesn't hurt anything. Meguiar's only uses beneficial silicones, that is, if they are in the formula they are in there because they are either a benefit to you or the process.

When you read on other forums that silicones are bad, just remember the forum name of the person making that statement and in the future question everything they post as potentially misinformation.
