  • Softbuff pad with backing plate attached???

I went to a paint a bodyshop store the other day and noticed that they carried some Meguiars yellow softbuff pads with the backing plate attached (I cannot remember if the were 5" or 5.5" pads). They were yellow in color just like the w-8006 pads and I am assuming they were made of the same material but in a smaller diameter. Do the backing plates come off or are they fixed to the pad-I did not have time to check. Thanks.

Apparently, some people would rather screw pads into their buffers than use Velcro. Customers want it, so Meguiar's does it, 5.5" and 6" for DA and 8" for rotary.

Maybe people like the rotary versions because they don't have to center them? Maybe, being smaller and lighter, the 5.5" and 6" DA pads work better with pneumatic DA buffers? Just guessing here.

In pix the color looks the same as the W8000/W8006 but I don't know if the foam is the same or not.

The W1000 pads are different foam, though a very similar yellow color.

Locally, none of our Meguiar's suppliers ever knew about W8000 pads; naturally, neither did I until I visited the forum. What difference does this make?

After using the W8000 series foam, I have much fewer problems with some of the annoying hologram marking that I would get with W1000 when using such products as M83 and M80.

Click on this one: it'll get you to the thread where I learned the differences in the pads.

Thanks-I was not aware that it was made from a different material then the w-8006 pads.

          Thanks for the info Pete..

I see these pads hanging on the shelf of my local PBE store. Since I had never heard anyone talk about them, I fugured they were some outdated models my PBE was carrying. They also carry quite a bit of the Medallion line.
