  • Need help with scratch!

    Hi guys,

I was referred to come here to ask you guys for some advice from someone on another forum.

    Here's the breakdown:
Someone used a key to write "Booger" on top of my wheel fender close to the hood of the car. When I tried, I could get the scratch with my nail, it was not very deep at all., but it is noticable.
I found out who it was and he will be paying.
My friend used some scratch-X with a buffer today, and he manage to make it better but its still there and noticable. He says he's 75% sure he can get it off with a little more time. We tried a few applications, and it did make it a lot better. I did a test, and used water with a wash mitt to wash the scratch and see if it would come back, it APPEARS as though the scratch got a little bit worst, but it is minimal.

Here's a picture of the scratch BEFORE we applied scratch-x with a buffer:

    MY QUESTIONS:
    1) Is the scratch below the clear coat?
    2) Will scratch-x with a buffer work eventaully if we keep applying it?
    3) How exactly should we be applying the scratch-x? Just to make sure we're doing ti right.
    4) Is it normal that after we apply the scratch x and then wash the place where we applied it, that the scratch gets worst than before we washed it? Or am I tripping?

its pretty much permanent if u can feel it w/ ur nails....... if the idiots paying for it then i'd just make him pay for repainting that section.....

I can't put my finger nail in it, but if i run my finger nail over it, it can be felt ever so slightly.

How much would it cost to get taken to a pro?

If you can't feel the scratch with your nail then the scratchX should be able to take it out. ScratchX is $8.00 and then you will need to place a wax in the area where you worked. I would use the best wax since the person who did this is paying, NXT Tech Wax $15.99. Apply the scrachX with a foam pad working into the scratch for 30 to 45 seconds, then remove with a microfiber towel. Depending on how deep the scratch is you might need to follow these steps two or even three times. Do not let the product dry, and remember a little bit of product goes a long way. As for a pro detailer to take it out the scratch, it varies.

What about if I apply it with a buffer?

I dont think ScratchX will work.... try 80 and a yellow pad on the buffer or even step up to a red pad then back to yellow.
This is still not aggresive enough to hurt anything but should help on the little "booger"
