I do it all the time. Finishing pad, low speed. 3 or 2. Thin, thin, thin. Wipe first with a cotton terry towel, then with a mf towel. Don't worry about getting every last bit and streak; the finishing product will pick up the last.

As the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way.

#81, and #7 have been hard for me to apply with a PC for some reason...How much product do you apply to the pad Tom? And do you go over the same area multiple times, as if you were working in a cleaner?

Not much at all. Most of the problems people have with # 7, #81 etc are because they use WAYYY too much. I rub it in more than a straight wax, but less than a cleaner...it should still be "damp" when you remove it. If it's too thick and "dries," you're going to have a hell of a time getting it off. You have to use MORE product on a clean applicator to "dissolve" the product build up.

Like Don said. I treat it like a lotion; apply, then wipe off the excess after it skins but before it dries. The PC gives it all the working in that it needs.

Sounds like you guys just apply it, and then move on to the next spot.
When I tried to apply it, the residue seemed kind of gummy...Or tough & waxy would be another way to put it. Maybe I applied to much to the pad, or worked it in to long. I've heard some say that you need to prime the pad with a lot of product.
I have no problem with hand application when using a Hi-Tech applicator pad...The product has a transparent, oily look to it with this method, and is easy to remove.
I guess I need to practice with my PC to see if I can duplicate the hand method results.
I just applied #7 this afternoon for the first time by PC and what I did was started with a dry finishing pad, put about 1/8" wide bead around the outside of the pad, set PC on 3, and wow I must say a little goes a very very very long way with a PC. With this amount the first time I was able to do the whole hood and left fender and this was done a F150. I left it sit for about 5 mins and then done a quick wipe of everything and then went back over and it was almost streak free.
I found this way alot easier than when I used it by hand.
I am by no means an expert with this and a PC since this was the first I did it but it worked well for me.

Thanks DevilDog...I'll try to duplicate your efforts in the coming days ahead.
I wonder what a polishing pad would do?
EDIT: Did you go over the same area (Overlap) more than one time before stopping?

I basically cut the hood into 3rds when i applied it and over lapped each pass about half comming down the hood then moved to middle did same way and then other side and right down the fender. Then went to other fender and front end. Waited about 5 more mins and it started to skin pretty decent then i did 1 quick wipe off of everything with a Terry Towel and then went back over everything with a MF towel.
I didnt work it in at all just kind of smeared it over the surface.

I'll give it a go this week, but the old Bermuda high is trying to anchor itself a little too early this year.....Causing the humidity to rise too much.
Originally posted by DevilDog Yeah I hear you RUSTY, Its been very humid here too lately. Not sure if that affects the #7 or not.
I didn't think the Bermuda high's influnce would affect you guys up in PA, but I guess it does.
I've heard some say that #7 is affected by high humidity, in that it makes it harder to remove...I think that's one reason why Meguiars came out with #5 New Car Glaze...They say it works better than #7 in places that have high humidity.
Edit: I tried #81 (Similar to #7) with my PC and a W-8006 pad on #3 setting today and it worked ok...I did not prep the paint, as it was cleaned not to long ago, so the paint soaked the polish up pretty good...I tried a second application and had good results so far...I will prep the sides tomorrow with SFP, & then apply #81 to see how it goes.
