I just received my clay kit today and will work on one of my black car's tomorrow. My question is about when will you know the clay bar is "wore" out from doing it's job? Anybody have any tips on that? How many cars, from top to bottom and average size, will you get done with one bar of clay?

My claybar states it will do 4 complete cars...when you can not get a clean area of clay once you re-form it and it's very dirty looking it's time for new clay.
Tip...I've found it's much easer to start the claying process with a very flat piece of clay. So what I did was squirt a small bit of lube on the windshield/glass and flatten it out...then simply peel it off the glass and start claying on the painted surface...(once lubed)!HammerDown

You should tear the bart into two equal pieces. That way, if you drop it, the spare is ready.

As the clay get dirty, fold it in on itself. It will change color, getting darker. Compare the darker used clay to the unused piece. I can't tell you exactly when to throw it away, but you'll see it getting dirtier.
I used my old clay to do the windows. It's something I learned from Mike Phillips.
