These are the steps that I took iwth my car....

    clay
    diamond Cut
    80 rotary
    80 @ 5
    21 times 2
    High tech wax..

    Car came out great

I was it with megs tech wash and I look at it in the sun and I see swirls...today i see holograms...

I didnt see any off this in the sun after I completed it ...I washed 4 days after I did the detail...

    Am I missing something?

      Well,

What kind of defects are you trying to remove? Are you doing this by hand or machine? If you're doing it by machine what type of machine are you using, Rotary, Orbital, Or Dual Action Polisher and with what pads?

The problem is going to be with one of these steps.

What did you apply the M85 Diamond Cut Compound with?
What did you apply the M80 Speed Glaze with using the rotary buffer
What did you apply the M80 Speed Glaze with using the dual action polisher.

First, the M85 is a product that has to be completely worked against the finish until only a thin film of product remains on the finish, buff too little and the diminishing abrasives will not have all completely broken down and you will have left swirls in the paint at this step.

Chances are good if you left swirls in the first step, the second step didn't remove them, neither did the third machine step, it just depends on how deep the swirls were and the pad and technique you used with the second and third steps.

Is this your first rotary buff job?
        What are you working on?

          clay
          diamond Cut rotary @ 1500
          80 rotary @ 1500
          80 with PC @ 5
21 times 2 applied by hand
High tech wax.. applied by hand

Car was swirl free when I finished and after the wash I saw cobwebs and on the hood I saw holograms..

I am going to try to take pictures next time I polish the car

          @Mike
This isnt the first time that I used a rotary. Not saying that I am the best but I dont feel uncomfortable using the rotary machine...I get better results with using a PC as a finishing tool..

I will have pics next time...

          Sorry guys

Did you take a look at the finish outside or with a light after you finished polishing before the wax was applied? This is a good thing to do in the future because it shows the paint as it is.
Also check your wash mitt, I had a girlfriend use mine one time on her car. I was unaware and in honor when I drove the car out after washing it. Swirl city.

The holograms are almost certainly from the rotary work but the cobwebs could be from the subsequent wash. I'm not sure you can assume that they're both the same issue. Well, the solution might be the same for both, but the causes could be different.

While it shouldn't be absolutely necessary, I myself would use an intermediate step between something like #85/rotary and #80/rotary. But then I wouldn't use #80 by rotary, I'd pick something that's maybe a bit less rich in polishing oils (at least I suspect that's why I don't like #80 by rotary all that much).

I agree completely. M85 is a very aggressive compared to M80 as is a wool cutting pad (suggested for M85) in comparison to W8000 foam (suggested for M80).
