  • Not sure how much polish to put on pad.

Got new pads today, heh, heh. Will try not to split'em this time. I guess it just take experience to know how much polish to put on. After I do a 12x12 section does one reapply polish to pad and how much? Last time when I canged pads the backing plate was wet. Is that normal? Thanks

Kelly, how much material are you using to prime the pad?

Generally, once the pad is primed, I add material to the surface in a blob about the size of a quarter or less, depending on humidity and size of area I'm working. Beyond this, you'll know by experience (Don't ya hate hearing that instead of a concrete answer ), but it's a general guideline.

The wet backing plate seems to indicate too much material.

It's natural to assume you're using using too little material, but if you're getting product on the surface and it is working properly on the surface, that is all the material you need. Any more just soaks your pad and can cause problems.

Are you cleaning your pad during the process at all? What works for me on the DA is holding a terry towel against the pad to soak up unwanted material. If it's an intense session or humid that day, I'll often towel the pad after every panel.

      Hi:

Sorry to hear about the problem with the pad.

In general, when you start with a fresh clean pad you would put an "X" of product on the pad or some put a circle of product around the outside of the pad. I touch the pad to the area I am going to work a couple of times to spread the product out, then with the pad in contact with the surface you start the PC.

Once you have done the above you should only need a drop of the product in the pea to nickel size for each new area that you are working on. With more experience you will be able to judge how much product is needed.

      Saturated pad thread

      Hope that helps.

      Regards,
