  • Heat: Part II

The sun was pretty hot in South Florida yesterday.

My son and I worked on a friends car (wash, M80, wax and detail). We were working in the garage with the front and rear doors open. After he got the wax on, we waited over an hour, and it hazed but would not pass the swipe test. He started to remove it, but it gummed the bonnet. We waited another 20 minutes, and tried a small area with a MF--it streaked.

Finally I pulled the car out into the late afternoon sun and it dried almost as soon as I parked it. Pulled back in and buffed off.

    Is this normal?

Which wax were you using? And how thick was he applying it?

Good questions. NXT Tech Wax. Can't vouch for the thickness because my son was handling the application, but he and I have worked on cars as recently as last weekend without this issue. I'm not saying he didn't go heavy. And he wanted to get DONE, so maybe he didn't work it in as much as usual. But when it did dry, it came off about the same as usual.

Hmm. Over an hour and 20 minutes for NXT to dry. That's a weird one there.

        New Bottle?
Have you used product out of it before?
        Shake it well?

All common sense questions but something does not sound right.

I see you are in South Florida so I guess it's safe to assume you did not let it freeze over the winter.

You might wish to give customer service a call and discuss.

The only other thing I can think of is that you did not remove the #80 well enough.

I will say this though. Please keep in mind that I am pretty much new at this and I am just throwing this out as food for thought. IMHO, with NXT, if you were gumming up the bonnet, I suspect you overapplied. For me, as I go for thin coats, I really can't see there being enough residue on my whole truck to gum up a bonnet. It seems to me that that would take quite a bit of product to gum up a pad.

          Hey Jeff.

Bonnet only gummed from the still wet wax.

Actually, bottle was near empty, not new. Bottle was bought about a month ago. As I mentioned it could have been on thick, and or not worked in well, if the latter is an issue. I wasn;t watching him that closely, because we have double teamed a car before, and he knows what to do. But he was trying to finish up for a date, so I'm sure he was rushing.

I did a wipe down with QD before the was went on. I will also say that the metal of the dark blue car was hot! It had been out in the sun for awhile.

This had to be an "us" issue. I just want to avoid in it the future, if I can figure out what we did wrong.

just a random guess but you might not have shaken the bottle well when you used it before... causing the proudct to seperate making it difficult to remove???

also since you said the car was hot that might have been a factor

but i am just supprised that you used a full bottle of NXT in a month

Just out of curiosity, How many cars did you do with a bottle of NXT in a month?

I bet here is where I get busted for overuse of product--5 cars.
