  • newb question on scratches

I have tried everything, but can not seem to eliminate these fine scatches - I have used many variations of compounds, but the same style foam pad - should I switch to a wool pad? I have tried 2 different meguiars heavy cutting compound, as well as 3m heavy cutting compound.....just thought I'd get some advice

you can see em BAD in this pic (sorry for the size, but detail is needed):

btw - the 3 step meguiars product got it so it's about half as bad, but it took many coats on the 2nd compound.....

using this pad with a rotary buffer:

In the last pic, those look like buffer swirls.

It sounds like you are going more agressive, when you actualy need to be going milder.

What do you mean by the Meguairs 3-step product? Do you mean the Deep Crystal System? While that is not exactly meant for rotary use, the fact that it helped is a good sign, that going milder will work.

You are going to want to look into products like #83 Dual-Action Cleaner/Polish, and the #80 Speed Glaze, and possibly even adding a tool like the G-100 to your toolchest.

Give these threads a reading over, and we can go from there. I am sure more people will have e chimed in by then as well:

unfortunately they arent - they are fine scratches

yes - the deep crystal system is what I used, thank you.

I tried just swirl remover products first, but it just made the paint look deeper in color and did not effect the scratches. they are very fine scratches btw. they are just anoying me like crazy. I'll read up on your posted threads, thank you!

Ok, good, its important to get up o nthe same terminology and process before everyone starts helping out.

Unfortunatley, there arent as many help-threads for rotary use, but there are a lot of products for rotary use, and people with lods of experience with it.

my symptoms seem to look like this:

sad to think I might have caused these probs!!!!

think I should get some scratchX and give it a shot?

is there a reason your not supposed to use scratchX with a
rotary? I read your link to the differences, but will the product just no be as effective? in essence your using the same pad. Seems the g-100 would benefit people who are skurd to use the rotary. I do not have that fear.
