  • car door dinged @ work

My car received it's 1st blemish last Wednesday when someone at my work door dinged my passenger side door.

The person decided to flee the scene without leaving a note...not realizing I was already outside and spotted the get away car. The person had the nerve to park next to me the very next day. That made IDing the car to security that much easier.

The person already confessed when confronted by our security personnel.

I haven't spoken with the person but from what the security staff told me...the person is more than willing to fix the problem now.

There is a dent now...but I plan to take it to a paint less door ding remover. I'm more worried about the few areas that have been scratched that you can hopefully see in my attached picture.

Also what should I expect if the car needs a paint job for that area? Meaning is it typical to only repaint just the entire door? I'm worried about the paint not matching after wards.

Before this incident my car didn't have a single paint chip on it or ding. I just want my car to be like it was before and I care about the condition of my car.

What should I expect/be entitled to from the insurance company to make the car like it was before?

I'm planning to stop by the meguiars wednesday's open garage night...and have someone there look at it in person to see if this might buff right out *crosses fingers*

Included below are pics right after the incident and after a car wash.

    Advice would be much appreciated.

Wow, that really bites! As far as the dent and the scratch.. You should be ok with a dent removal service.. They will probably pull the panel off of your door ad fix from the inside.. If they can't get to it from there, they will drill a hole that will be covered by the door panel when put back on. I had a guy get some dents out of a truck I wanted to buy... It drilled a hole in the top of the rear fenderwell and was able to get it to with a tool about 4 ft. away.. Tell them to take their time and let them have at it.. My guy was nice enough to kinda show what he was doing while he was doing it..

As for the paint.. You can probably talk to the dent removal people about a place that could touch up that paint..

Good luck, I know what a pain this is... We had a young lady merge into our lane and push her side mirror in to the right rear quarter panel of our Durango with less than 1000 miles on it! Fun times!

I hate it when someone dings your pride and joy! Some people just do not understand how much we try and take care of our vehicles!

The PDR should be able to remove the dent as I do not see a crease. But as for the chips, I hate to say it, but I would suggest carefully touching them up. I would be very concerned about letting someone paint my car. The issue of color match, metallic match etc are all of a concern. True, good shops can do an excellent job of matching the paint, but if you do not have to paint it, then I would not risk it. Just IMHO.

          Sorry that happened bro -

Some jacknut put a 4" long scratch in my wife's Subaru this weekend. It's a silver car, but the scratch is showing white so I assume it's down to the primer. Don't know what to do... (sorry for hijacking)
