Can I use trim detailer on Vinyl? I came across a car in which the interior vinyl door section had some dulled white spots on it. I cleaned it using APC, it appears that the color was restored but only until the APC was still wet/damp on it. Once it dried from my wipe off the spots reappeared. Any suggestions?

Trim Detailer Question?

Hi Erik,
If the vinyl has been damaged and/or stretched in some form, the white marks are usually permenant and the panel must be re-dyed.
However, using a product like Meguiar's #40 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner will go a long way in making it look a lot better. And in some cases, it makes it look so good that nothing else needs to be done, except regular applications of the dressing!!

can't remember what I used. but I know when I did some polishing by hand, it came in contact with my mud guards and left a white mark on the edge of it.
Now I know why its important to tape off the trims.
but, can #40 restore the rubber on mud guards or its stained permanently?
its was the same when for the weather stripping.
I used trim detailer, but not sure if after time, it will just fade and leave the white mark again.
thanks.

Hey,
If the mark on your mud guards is something on the surface (many mud guards are a solid color all the way through, I would first try and remove the mark using #39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner. Spray it on to a towel and wipe it on the white marks. Allow it to sit a minute of so. Then take a brush and work the product into the mark. See if that will remove the mark. If so, then I would top the mud guards with the Trim Detailer. If not, then it is hard to say whether a dressing would help too much as the mud guards are usually made out of a hard material. But you never know until you try!
