  • Just thinking out loud....about "black paint"

    I guess, I am confused.

I see alot of posts about what product is best on black paint.

I am not talking about single stage black paint, but clear coated black paint.

    Is not clear coat...clear coat?

I think it's in the eye of the beholder. Some products bring different looks to a finish. One may like one look over another but it's subjective to say the least.

Well, paint is paint, clear or colored. So the 'best' for one should be the best for all.

But carnubas and synthetic waxes do seem to change the look of things a bit.

        IMO....

I would think the different types of waxes will give you different looks on any paint but... is it that black is easier to see the difference over other colors? and maybe then easier to say this product looks best on black. and yes its what look one likes best.

If I apply 80 then NXT to my black truck the finish turns a Hershey chocolate brown for about 4-6 hours then turns JET BLACK. Gold Glass adds some nice gloss, but #21 really makes it pop. I have never used a pure polish after 80, but since I got the rest of the week off, I going to pick up a bottle of machine glaze and show car glaze and give those a try after 80 and before NXT and #21 on half the hood to see if I can tell a difference. I dont know why on my GMC black the NXTs color change, but on a Jeep Grand Cherokee that is black just makes the black pop. Mine takes 4-6 hours to pop..

This is along the same lines of why its recommended as ideal to wait before reapplying another layer of a wax/sealant. It allows the products to cure. The chocolate color is probably due to a combination of your particular paint and the M80 and NXT curing.

At the Cadillac dealership I did work for, we'd often put a car under the showroom lights for delivery, then have to touch up a spot after we'd applied wax or sealant. Sometimes the spot would look a bit different for 30 min or so after wiping.

I would warn the sales people that this could happen and that it would go away after that 30 min period. By knowing how consistent the products were, I could accurately predict what would happen after I walked out the door. Meguiar's helped us look good without even being there.
