  • Went shopping... several questions.

    Bought in the last 2 days: PC 7336, #83, #80, #34 Final, C-2000 Clay, Pads (1 each 7006, 8006, 9006), 1 Megs MF, and 1 pt Megs Medallion Wax.

    Here's my questions:

    1. I had NXT TEch Wax or #21 on my list but the guy at the store recommended the Mirror Glaze Medallion instead. Good move?

    2. I did the left rear quarter of my black Crown Vic as follows: Clayed with QD, 7006 w/#83 on speed 4, 8006 w/#80 on speed 4, Medallion Wax by hand. Under the Halogens it looked great, when I pulled it out into the setting sun in looked kind of smeary. After each step I used a little Quick Detailer to get off the remnants. I also used the same MF for every step including taking off the wax. I suspect that is my problem? Any thoughts?

    3. I did try using a Terry Cloth towel to take off the remnants of the #83 but the Terry Cloth seemed to be introducing scratches back into the panel.

Overall I think my work produced some great results and I am very pleased with all of the products. I am hoping that the "smeariness" can be remedied with the use of multiple MF cloths. Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks

I'm new to this as well, but I would say it is from the same MF you are using.. Also, from what I've read, it is recommended to use the 8006 instead of the 7006 on the #83 DACP...

True, Meguiar's does not recommend using the W7006 Cutting Pad on the PC as it could dull the finish. Hopefully this is not the case with your "smeary" look that you now have. Meguiars does however recommend the 7006 pad for use on the PC with a microfiber bonnet placed over it for removing wax.

It's possible that by using the same towel to remove all of your products that you could have some excess product smeared onto the finish, however if you wipe down the area with a clean towel and the "smeary" look is still there, it's possible that the combination of the #83 with the 7006 pad caused it.

I'm sure some others who have some more experience with this will chime in.

        1. Dont use the 7006 pad directly on your paint. Use the 8006 pad with #80 and #83.

        2. Certainly are going to need a bunch of Supreme Shine towels, not one. Try that first.

        3. Hard to say what why #83 was hard to remove, though it can be a bit more stubborn that #80.

Thanks for the feedback! I hope I didn't mess up too bad using the 7006 on the paint. After re-reading some of the main how-to threads on here I see that I should have seen not to use the 7006. With so much info I was in Meg-Overload

I feel pretty certain that if I hit it one more time with the 80 on the 8006 and then re-wax (using multiple MFs this time) it will be near perfect (for a beginner that is).

Any thoughts on the Medallion Wax (which I see has apparently been discontinued)? Can I apply this with the PC and the 9006? I will also try removing with a MF bonnet on the 7006. Will the NXT wax be superior enough to the Medallion to make the switch worthwhile?

One other thing. Upon re-reading more of the how-to threads I noticed that the recommended work area size for the 83 and the 80 was something like one square foot at a time. I was doing an area over twice that size each time. That could explain the smeariness as being non-uniform application of the product?

Thanks again, this is a great forum and these products sell themselves.

MPPC should go on easily enough, and is a good product.

I would probably pick #21 after it.

Medallion Premium Paint Protection (MPPP) was an excellent product that I used quite a bit over the years. I remember buying it when it first came out. It even came with a video! That was a long time ago!

Yes you can use the MPPP. It will provide a very glossy and reflective finish. NXT will would also add some depth to the paint. So if have the MPPP, apply 2 coats. If you want a little more richness to the paint, top it with #26 Hi Tech Wax.

As for the size of area when using the PC, try and limit yourself to an area of ~ 18"x18".

              Cheers!
