  • Bonnets for removing wax and sealents

I see alot of posts on here where people use bonnets over there pads on the pc for removing wax and sealents.

Is this better than microfiber and is the shine better or what?
What bonnets do you use and where do you get them?

I got microfiber bonnets from properautocare.com... Haven't tried them out yet, though.

Meg's has a very nice MF bonnet for the PC. Use it for a while, flip it inside out, and do some more...

Is it better than a MF by hand? I still dunno...being very time concious, by the the time I prepare the PC with a pad and bonnet, I might have the product already removed with a MF towel...

      I'm open to opinions...

Here's a little more info. on the Meguiar's bonnets that Jimmy Buffit mentioned and the sizes available. They are made of the same microfiber material as the Meguiar's MF.

        Ultimate Bonnet
        M-9920 - 6.5"
        M-9930 - 8"

          Hey,

Meguiar's offers the microfiber Ultimate Bonnet (M-9920) which is an excellent product. When placed over a clean and dry W-8006 Polishing Pad, the results are amazing!

            2HOTFORD,

What exactly does this do different than doing it with a microfiber?

What speed do you set the PC at? MAX?

I just ordered some Megs 8006 and 9006 in 6 1/2 inch. Will the 6 1/2 inch bonnets work or will i need the next size bigger?

              Just to chime in here,

It's hard to tell, but I think removing wax with a microfiber bonnet seems to up the gloss. I have probably removed as much, and maybe more wax than most people using the Ultimate Bonnet and it does seem to leave the finish even glossier than by doing it by hand.

Just look at the gloss on the hood of this Corvette that we applied Tech Wax to and then removed with a bonnet.

There is another benefit to using a bonnet versus just your hand. With a bonnet, you completely remove your hand, and thus your finger pressure from the process. This is just an extra level of perfection that is something I prefer when polishing a finish for show or display.

For example, I buffed out this black 1993 Corvette for this weekends Plastic Fantastic Corvette show in San Diego and the very last thing I did was to apply two thin coats of NXT Tech Wax and then remove using Ultimate Bonnets with the PC. The results are flawless.

The above photo was taken at 6:30am so I was unable to pull it out into the sun for an accurate results photo, but I will be taking some photos of the above car this Sunday at the show.

I like Ultimate Bonnets for removing Tech Wax. You will still need to go back over the car and remove the wax in the hard to reach areas that the bonnet on a PC cannot reach however.

              Hope this helps...

                Mr. Phillips,

I heard that using the lambswool pads alone will cause swirls. I know that the bonnet fits around the wool pad, but even then, does it leave swirls?

                Thanks.

                  Hi FlaresideLarieat,

Swirls can only be instilled by a lambswool pad when the pad is in direct contact with the paint. When I use and show Meguiar's Ultimate Bonnet for removing wax, I'm using it over a W-7006 or a W-8006 foam pad.

The cushion of the foam pad contours to the shape of your body panels.

                  It works good.

                      Ditto what 2hotford said.

The 6 1/2 will fit perfectly on the 8006 and 9006 pads. Kinda tricky getting them on a G-100A, be advised.
