Did you have any sort of towel / blanket laying on the paint ever?

No MURR, I have never had any towels ect. laying on the hood. Before I was aware of this site and the products Meguiars offered, I washed truck with a soft brush like the ones Meguiars sells and dried using a water blade, ABSORBER and chamois. I apllied wax/polish with terry and microfiber applicater and removed w/ blue colored MF from Wal Mart. Could any of this caused these marks? Thanks for taking the time to actually help and ask a legitimate question.

If it is a very regular pattern, then it either came from something with that patterrn on it, or it came from very precise motions acoss the paint.

You wouldnt be able to recall if they follow a pattern you use when appling products, or drying?

Most people kind of dry/apply in a random pattern, so you arent going to see set lines.

Are they scratches? Or maybe actually in the paint? I am asking because I have a VERY strange paint defect on my stang that is only visible under florescent light on the decklid, and they seem to be under the clear-I think it was part of the paint process. I cannot get it to show in pics, and I have never seen it in any sort of natural light-only in the garage under florescent. I would almost describe them as "dents". I cant feel them though, so I think they are under the clear.

sorry if this seems like a dumb question, but are you sure you arent just seeing the reflection of something on the other side of the truck with that pattern? like, if you park outside in sunlight do you still see the pattern?

Hammer, not a dumb question, but no it's not a reflection. I was in my garage and theres nothing in there w/ that type of pattern and no it is not visible at all in sunlight. My truck looks great outside. It only noticed it because I have flourescent lights (2) overhead in my garage and I was down low at an angle running the G100 across the hood and BAM all I see is weird shaped scratches all in the clear. There is no distint pattern, just periodic scratches.
I actually went back out tonight and got it back under the flourescent lights, halogen stand lights and handheld halogen light to recheck and try to get some more pics because I went back over it last night w/ scratch x and 80 again. It may be a little bit better but not much. I took more pics but they do not show anything. I can see them when I look across the hood at an angle under the lights. I don't know??? Like you said electric it could be under the clear...that would make a lot of sense to me because I have worked the G100 hard and I can't seem to put a dent in these at all and I cannot get anything in a pic to come out. I've taken like 10 pics and they show nothing. They are there to the naked eye under the light, but can't get them in a pic. The major prob I have is that a lot of the hood looks awesome from the 83, 80 and two coats of 21 and all I can get in the pic are serious reflections of the lights overhead, the halogen stand lights and the white walls and ceiling in garage. If you turn lights down or off, you can't find scratches....Sounds like I just found solution to my problem huh......turn out lights and forget about it? I tend to be a perfectionist about stuff like this. I know there is an issue and want to fix it... Thanks for replies guys.....

I know how you feel. Whatever is in/on/under my paint drives me crazy. However, after a few years of knowing it's there and it not going away, I have come to accept it. I also know I NEVER want to show my car inside, lol. Looks great even in intense sun, but turn on those florescents and BAM, funky paint defects.

I really wish they would show in a pic so I could get more opinions, it's kinda limited to showing to people I know when they come over to my house....Oh well, I guess I have to accept that she aint perfect!!

yes I know what you are talking about. It drives me crazy when the sun goes down and I'm at work because during the day I see my truck and it looks smooth, shiny and awesome. Then it gets dark and all the parking lot flourescents pop on and BAM scratches/swirls. I found more tonight while I was out getting some stuff out of my truck. I parked in a different spot today and the lights are hitting a different side of my truck and at a different angle than normal and the scratches/swirls I thought I had gotten out this weekend w/ 83 and 80 apparently are still there because you can see them tonight. Maybe I am expecting too much from G100 and 83/80 combo....I have seen pics on here of others cars/trucks and they look frickin immaculate and scratch free. They claim to be using same products I have. I just need to find out somehow if it is something I am doing wrong or is there a technique I need to improve on to make it all it can be. If I have reached the max potential of these products, then I can accept it. But if not, I want to know how too. You know what I mean? If I can do more to improve the appearance on my ride...I'm willing to learn to do it. What I want to do is attend a Meguiars class.

I believe the Mustang paint was a "mystic paint" that was shorter runs of a few select colors. But I'm not sure as I have not seen many, is this is a metallic/flake paint?

How about the Titan?

It's possible that your seeing a reflection of the flake/metallic in the clear at certain angles. Or just seeing the flake. This would explain the random pattern. It might depend on which way the machine was moving when it applied the paint as to which direction you would see the marks.

You might check from another angle and see if it pops up in more places.

Just grasping at straws here, but a possibility!

There was a Mystic as well as a Mystichrome paint color for Mustangs (year specific, only on Cobras).

Mine is Electric Green-it is metallic but these "defects" are fairly large, I doubt it has anything to do with the way the metallics laid when sprayed. I would say they are slightly smaller than a dime, but they are not round shaped. I guess it could be though, since they are not on the sides that I can tell, just the flat surfaces-but I don't know how the decklid is sprayed (flat or hung, like they do on professional repaints, the doors etc are taken off and painted seperately)....

Well, LAfirefytr, look at it this way-those cars in those pics, they could have the same "defect" since neither of us have been able to get ours to show in a pic when we were TRYING to show them!!

I need to get another 'Stang!
Feeling the itch as it starts to warm up every year and I need to scratch before it drives me crazy!!!
