  • Metal Guard

I noticed there is a product called Metal Guard in the Marine line. I assume it is mainly for handrails, and that sort of thing.

But i am wondering if it would have any benefit if applied after Nxt Metal Polish on something like mufflers/tailpipes to add to the protection the Polish has in it? Or perhaps this protection would burn off as easily as a wax or anything else would?

It says it prevents salt corrosion, etc, which around here is always possible, and an extra layer of protection might be nice.

The Metal Guard is more than a protective layer;it is a protective coating. You are to apply it over the metal surface and allow it to set up. It sounds like it will be good for several months! In fact, it even says that if you accidently get overspray on other areas, that you are to use an adhesive remover to remove it! That is some strong stuff!

I applied some a few months ago to a metal part on my travel trailer and it looks as good as the day I applied it! I was quite amazed!!!! Polishing metal is very different than polishing paint. Plus, metal tends to re-oxidize quite quickly. The Metal Guard held that just polished look for a LONG time!

I do not know however if it would be good for exhausts or not as I wonder if there may be chemicals in it that may react to extreme heat. I will pose the question to Mike who can ask the chemists.

I do plan on using it for a little surprise review I have coming up!

Lookin forward to your review on that Tim. And after reading your post on Metal Guard's durability, and having to use an adhesive to remove overspray from the Metal Guard. I assume if anyone were to try it, it'd be a good idea to tape off and cover surrounding areas. Great info btw.

Shew, I can't wait to hear whether or not it'll work on exhaust components. I have two stainless tips that would greatly appreciate some added protection!

                Sorry Matt,

I have not heard anything yet. I will forward this thread to Mike to see if he has heard anything yet. From my own experiments, Metal Guard is some tough stuff!

I have not used this product once. So I have no first hand experince to share. I'll pick up a can and give it a try on the chrome tips of the exhaust on my Blazer and tell you how it holds up. My guess is that, like most car care products, it's not intended for high heat application.
