  • Cleaning wheel procedure question...

Okay I'm going to take them off soon...

    Questions

Claying the wheel would I notice any difference by doing that ?

Would be a good idea to use MPPC on clear coat wheels ?

This is what I'm thinking on doing

    Wash
    Clay
    MPPC
    Then some kind wheel polish

    Too much

    Let me know

    Thank you

I don't think its over kill, treat clear coated wheels just like you would treat the paint on your vehicle. Consider using a LSP like NXT Generation Tech Wax or #21 Synthetic Sealant

Here is my process: Wheels ~ the extra step....

Wow that's a clean wheel good job...

Can you tell me what's safe to use on brake pads & rotors.

      Thank you

safe? to clean the brake pads/rotors?

If thats the case... I am not sure, I stay clear of my brakes with any product other than soap and water that may get on them from cleaning my wheels during a normal wash.

I've heard that some people use Simple Green.

            NEVER use Simple Green.

It will pit aluminum, and stain plastic.

but if your wheels have a clearcoat, and no plastic, will it get them clean? is it still harmful?

Well, If you took the wheels off, and were carefull, it might be ok. But on the other hand, if it can damage metal, it might be able to damage paint as well.

But if your wheels are left on to clean, there is the potential for pitting brake components, or staining wheelwells. And I'm not sure if a 'clearcoated wheel' has the backside cleared as well?

What do you guys use to clean the wheel wells? What can I use to make them look nice and black so they don't stand out. I can stand how my car looks sometimes. Nice detail on a black car. Nice detail tire and rim and this gray wheel well. I don't want them to stand out. I would like them to blend with the rest of the car.

If your talking about this, this is what I use:

Rinse the wheel well really good. I'm trying to knock off dirt and debris at this point
                    Spray Safe D-Greaser w/Foaming Sprayer
Use a Versa Angle Tire Brush to agitate - I have 2 Tire brushes (1 for Wheel Wells, and 1 for the tires).
                    Rinse Wheel Well
Allow to dry for about 5 minutes
Spray Hyper Dressing all over, and walk away

I actually follow that same procedure for my engine details..

That is exactly what I am talking about. I will have to give it a shoot. I think I will have to take the wheel off though. I have a hard time getting my hand in there Thanks for the help.

You can also get a floor jack, and center it under you car's front axle (chock the back wheels)..

When you raise the jack the front tires will droop down, maybe giving you some room to work with. But taking the wheels off will do the trick, but a little bit of a pain. Because once you get those wheel wells looking nice, you'll want to keep them looking like that with every car wash! So removing the wheels every week doesn't sound fun.

Thanks for the advise. I did even think of jacking the car up. I is amazing how sometimes you don't think of the simplest thing. I think I will take the wheel of for the first time. I plan on cleaning the inside of the wheels anyways it has been a long winter here. I could even amagine taking 8 wheels on and off ever week. Since I also take care of the wifes car. She already thinks that I am nuts on the amount of time I spend on the cars. I can oly imagin what she would say if I took them off every week. Funny I don't here her complain when she is driving around.

If you get them cleaned out well and dressed to start with, hopefully you can find a good brush for the rest of the time, and you wont have ot worry about any heavy build-up till winter.

FYI - Boys and girls if you are using the floor jack make sure of its rating for pounds lifted and please use a jack stand. IF the floor jack were to lose just a tiny bit of pressure while your arm or fingers were cleaning a crevice you could really get hurt.
