  • Cobwebs and orangepeel

    Hello Everyone,

I am new to forums so please bear with me.
I have a 97 Jeep which is Dark Blue clearcoat and it has some cobwebs/swirls and some orangepeel in the paint.
What can I do to remove the cobwebs/swirls and the orangepeel?
I would like to get the finish to have that showroom look again.
    I do have a G100 polisher.

    Thanks

      Welcome opice1 to Meguiarsonline.com

How much time are you willing to invest to restore the finish?

opice1 give me a call, I think it would be best to discuss what to use over the phone. We can clear questions a lot easier.

            Hi Opice1,

            Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

We can help you with the swirls and scratches, but orange peel typically needs to be wet-sanded to be removed and while wet-sanding isn't too tough to do, removing your sanding marks can be very difficult once the paint is cured and hardened. Removing sanding marks needs to be done while the paint is fresh, as in a day or two after the car was painted and it needs to be done using a rotary buffer. A dual action polisher is to gentle, that's a big reason they're so popular, they won't burn your paint because they are fairly gentle to your finish, for the same reason, they won't remove sanding marks because they are gentle to your finish.

If you want to remove swirls and scratches from your Jeep's finish, I have written a how-to article that goes over each step here,

Using the G-100 to remove swirls with the Professional Line

The most important step will be the cleaning step as it is in this step you're going to actually remove the swirls. For this you must take your time, don't rush it. Most people don't get the results they're looking for with the dual action polisher because they go to fast, carve out to large of an area to work at one time, don't run the tool at the right speed, move the polisher too fast over the finish and don't push down hard enough.

That said, with the right technique and a little patience, you can remove the swirls safely and restore show room new looking finish.

If you haven't read the, it would be a good idea to read them and soak up the information in them.
