  • Micro marring

    Hi,

I have been using NXT paste wax for a while now. The steps I took were; wash with NXT wash, dry and apply the paste wax by hand with the provided applicator pad. The car looks great in a shaded area but when its moved out into direct sunlight, micro-marring can be seen. Is this due to improper waxing technique? Could you advice me on the techniques of applying wax by hand?
The wax is removed by micro-fibre cloth

    Thanks!

    Hey,

The micro-marring is probably being caused more from improper washing technique. There is nothing in NXT that could scratch the finish. So it is either from the washing or the towels that you are using are of poor quality.

For washing, you should use the 2 bucket method: one for soap and one for rinse water. Use a high quality wash mitt. I prefer to use a lambs wool wash mitt. Be sure to thoroughly rinse down the car, then gently wipe down one to two panels at a time, then rinse the mitt in the rinse bucket. When drying, try and use a Meguiar's Water Magnet. The waffle weave MF water magnet works fantastic, and helps to prevent toweling marks/marring.

None of Meguiar's waxes are abrasive, so if you have micro-marring, the problem was either there before you began and it's possible that because the wax increases clarity that now you can see the micro-marring, or somehow you're instilling the micro-marring in another procedure. If anything, applying NXT Tech Wax or any was will help to eliminate the visual appearance of fine swirls, scratches and micro-marring.

Most paint jobs have swirls, whether it's a brand new car or a brand new paint job or an older car or paint job. It's the nature of the beast...

        Hi,

I'll try changing my wash & dry towels. Is it okay to use MF towels to shampoo the car? I don't prefer using sponges or wash mitts. For the NXT wax, is the technique I'm using to apply and remove the wax correct? Dab the applicator pad on to the paste and rub in circular patterns and remove with a MF. Is it normal to have traces of wax powder when I remove the wax?

I suggest an application of ColorX before you use the NXT tech wax. It will actually remove much of the micro-marring. When I wax by hand either with ColorX or NXT, I use a back and forth motion, followed by a motion perpendicular to this and then finally a circular motion. I work an area about 1/4 the size of the hood and then move on. I picked up this technique many years ago. It insures good coverage with one application. When I use NXT or ColorX, I apply wax to the whole vehicle before I remove it. Wipe the residue off with a mcrofiber poishing cloth. It makes the job a lot easier.
