  • Best way to polish top of suv?

On smaller models I usually use the door jambs (I know ) but it's a pain.
I'm afraid to use a ladder due to scratching and a step ladder doesn't seem like it would be stable enough.
The only thing that comes to mind is scaffolding but the size is a bit too much.

It needs to be adjustable too I guess as all vans/suv's are different sizes.

    Any thoughts ideas?

I use a ladder kind of like this:

and I tape foam pipe insulation - the tubular 3' length kind - on the metal tubing parts of the step ladder to protect against scratches.

    Just a thought.

      Hey,

I use a "large" Rubbermaid 2 step stool. In most cases, it is high enough (depending on how tall you are) to reach the center of a full-size SUV or a truck with a canopy. The problem with a ladder is that they can slip as you are leaning way too far out of its "safety zone". Once the ladder slips, it can hit the vehicle, doing a lot of damage. Unfortunately, sometimes a ladder is the only choice. You could buy a three-step ladder, or drywalling stilts, though I am not sure how well they would work. It would be funny to watch though!

I found this little beauty for $35.

Guess I should have looked around before I opened my yap!

        It's 20" tall,39"wide, & 12" deep.
I'll also check into the step stools when I get out.
Not much luck finding one at the usual stops online.

        Thanks guys!

                Hi Monk.

This can be found at both Home Depot and Lowes.

Have used it for about a year and it sure makes it easy to do Vans and SUV's.

Very light but well built. (250 pound rating)

Legs lock in place when in use and fold for storage.

This is a "must have" for painting the ceilings in your house.

I guess you could sit on it while you worked the sides of cars, also--to save your back.

We have one of these at Meguiar's Garage and it's invaluable for working on anything tall...

LOL!! I have seen guys walking around drywalling with those things on, and they walk like normal. But I am like you, I could see myself doing some kind of weird dance and then landing on my butt!

I can't show what I'm using (only have a verboten link to an online vendor), but it's a Bauer brand work platform. Similar to what Mike's using but wider and longer with a nonslip top surface (handy when washing, that- shampoo makes things slick). I got a pair of them, one for each side of the vehicle. Not cheap, but I've had them for years and they were worth it.

I use plastic milk boxes from the supermarket parking lot. Water flows thru them & when dry they hold supplies. Very handy when working @ a clients location, I'm packing & moving less from my shop while getting the job done @ their location which does require the appropriate increase in fee!
