Simple Green for washing

After cleaning your engine again w/ super degreaser or safe degreaser you should try hyper dressing, it'll probably hide the discolored plastic

While Hyper-Dressing is a fantastic product, it cannot replace what was lost (plastic).

My office is about 30 feet from the Training Garage and I've tried just about everything on my intake tube. I've given up. If I ever want it to be like new, it's a $70 part at the Dealership. 8-)

Hi Brian,

To be honest, you are better off replacing the part. Once it has been discolored, nothing will make it look right. IMO.

How about posting some pictures of that supercharged engine!

Simple Green definately takes all the shine and coating off plastic.

Looks great! Is that the TRD Super Charger? I believe they make a TRD kit for my wife's Toyota Corolla Sport. Hmmmm....

Yes, they sure do. But I'd be really hesitant to install anything from TRD ever again... especially something as critical as a supercharger kit.

My wife drives a Corolla-S as well... which I'll probably inherit for commuting (so the thought HAS crossed my mind).

Why hesitant? Not the quality you expected, or do you mean not easy to put on yourself?

The kit for the 3.4 Tacoma and 4Runner V6 was poorly researched and it's marketing was filled with falsehoods.

They claimed that the stock ECU and fuel system was up to the task of feeding the newly-boosted V6.

Instead, early adopters were forced to put up with things like pinging and lean conditions that caused many of us to have problems.

In my case, I ended up with cracked cylinder heads.

They have since released a "7-Injector" kit for the 2000 and up trucks (trucks that still fell under their warranty period), but for my truck I basically had 2 choices.... 1) go with a lower-boost pulley or 2) use a non-CARB compliant piggyback ECU and fuel injectors.

Since I have to get my car smogged every 2 years still, I went with the lower-boost pulley.

Simple Green makes a lot of different products, including a car wash. But I'm assuming here that the demo you read about used Simple Green's general purpose cleaner.

Simple Green is sold as a strong degreaser. That can't be good for the wax. I doubt it's good for paint either.

The pH is pretty high (>9). You hear lots of stories of people using it clean bare and polished aluminum on wheels and in engine bays then finding the metal corrodes.

Simple Green's website says; "The aqueous-base and alkalinity of Simple Green or Crystal Simple Green can accelerate the corrosion process. Therefore, contact times of All-Purpose Simple Green and Crystal Simple Green with unprotected or unpainted aluminum surfaces should be kept as brief as the job will allow - never for more than 10 minutes."

The US Army says; "Don't use Simple Green to wash aircraft or aircraft components. ... This product has been through DoD testing and was determined to be highly corrosive on aircraft aluminum. It can also be a catalyst for hydrogen embrittlement in high strength aircraft alloys."

i find this a little bit strange as i know for a fact that the us air force, amongst others use simple green to clean every single plane, considering every unique property it has. now i realise the all purpose and crystal are not what you should be using but there are many other SPECIFIC sg products, that includes EXTREME simple green. this has been used by the air force, cleaning subs, nasa, boeing etc etc... for years... so i have no idea where you pulled that from...

the extrem sg has unique anti corrosion properties when diluted no further than 1:13. if your stupid enough to use an industrial degreaser on your paint work (which in the instructions say clearly not to apply to paint ESPECIALLY OIL paint) than thats pretty much your problem.

if you get the right product for what you need first time, than there is no problem.

i personally use simple green for almost everything. and there MAX metal cleaner is certainly a lot easier to use than most meguiars products and it cleans protects and polishes in one... all at the same time being eco friendly non caustic, non flammable, bio degradable etc etc etc.

use the right product next time
