  • What should I use to clean the crevices of doors?

    Hello Meguiar's,

I feel like cleaning the crevices on my car, where the doors close down on. This is a picture of my hatchback opened up (it had the most grime). What do you guys recommend I use to clean it? I was thinking of using my Meguiar's Interior Detailer, and some towels. Would that cleaner not be powerful enough?

You don't have to do anything crazy to clean that...my car has a similar crevice like that on my hatch.

What I'd do is spray an all purpose cleaner in there and let it sit for a bit then take a couple of cups of warm water or the hose on low and wash it out then wipe up the rest with a rag.

    Good as new.

EDIT: I'd also like to point out that if you just wipe it dry after you wash it, you'll avoid that all together for the most part.

In little areas like that - I like to use a Quick Detailer(exterior kind) and an old 100% cotton terry towel.

Just use a good detailer spray and wipe off with a mf.

Well, depends on how old the grime is.

You may be able to just use some QD and wipe if is it dust.

If it is a little heavier and greasier, you might need to put soem APC on a rag and wipe some.

Is that a metal, painted surface? If so, I'd be careful about using APC on it. I usually get in under the trunk lid and wipe it down after each wash. This helps eliminate the chance of dirt build-up.

To remove the initial grime, I'd use QD first. If that doesn't cut it, try some car wash soap. Use a terry cloth towel so you can squeeze into those crevices. Once it's clean, maybe add a coat of spray wax. This is what I do for my door jambs.

Once you get it cleaned the first time, maintenance is a snap. As long as you don't allow the water to settle in there, and wipe it down when you wash, dirt won't build up.

Yeah that's the problem. Since it has been raining lately, whenever I open the hatchback, water always drips off the sides into the crevice. Leaves somehow find a way to get inside too.

Thanks everybody for the replies, seems like an easy task now. I'm guessing the acronym APC stands for All Purpose Cleaner?

                Yeah, thats the one.

I would just dilute as recomended, then spray some on a damp cloth, and wipe around. Then come back with a clean damp cloth and wipe again.

After that, just using QD should be good, as long as you keep up with it.

You can always dress the rubber bits then as well after cleaning.

sections like that on my vehicles, I use some APC and a steamer to blow out all the dirt and gunk.
